In Return to castle wolfenstein there was a kick move you could do by hitting a button, but could you do something in an hl2 mod were you hit the button, you see an animation of a 3d leg shooting up ect, and then kick something and see it ricochet off walls and other objects? How would could you do this with the SDK?

You could code that you could swing/hit/throw anything on the scene, you just need to make a first person weapon model and animations and it would work like a real object, the physics engine works for weapons as well.

BTW, you could do kicking for HL1 already, it would just been done much like the crowbar, a weapon that hits something when button is pressed, just different model, animations and sounds and of course damage.

Remember that Human Grunts in HL1 did kick you when you were close enough.

I really wish that was a feature they had included in Max Payne2.....i thought of that the first time i saw the gascans laying around...totally made me think of that scene in Hard Target, and i mean come on, as if that wouldn't have rocked....kick a gas can at a guy....see it go sailing through the air, go bullet time and shoot it out of the air in front of the guy....KABLOOOOOM! pure genius! you could also kick gas barrels down stiars and whatnot....such a simple feature would have added a whole new level o fun to an already great game.

Some of the NPC's in HL1 would try to kick enemies of they got too close....or maybe that was a MOD of HL1...don't remember.

That is why the Havoc physics in MP2 is just a gimmick, they never really USE it :) (there are some spots witch are neat though, but they are very rare)

Anyway, its so simple for Havoc (game devs can put it together in a day I would guess. If even that), yet it seems to so hard to do.

the only problem is it's kinda a waste of time to create intricate kung-fu actions in a first person shooter. For the obvious reason you would only see a small fraction of the animation. Of course if someone goes third perosn cam then i wanna see some "Hard Boiled" and "Dead to Rights" action.

For my mod its a must! Think about it: Your running through an abondoned building with creatures coming after you through a hallway so you then kick chairs, knock over tables to block it then turn a corner, you aim 4 inches to the left of a door knob and kick the door open! :cheese:

Ever heard of... hands...? ;)

yeah but it would be tuff to shuffle between pushing down things and opening a door when you got a shotgun or magnum revolver with a flash light in your hands:/

My mod will be 3rd person view and I plan to include multiple variations of kicking.. muahahaha....heh
What a useless post this is, I know.

Pff... Ever seen Kopps and the scene with the armed robbery? Now THATS the sort of gun handling I want, it leaves both your hands free ;)

You've seen too much Kopps. :P
BTW it's quite boring movie atleast to the 50 minutes that I've watched it.

Depends on what you like, its a rather stupid movie :)
Still, it WAS a good technique, eh? Maybe we can even do that guns-stuck-to-trees trick with sticky physics, or throw pistols at enemies and throw them 3m back, hehe.

I remember that there was one game where you could assign kick to a button, and also set it as a weapon. Or something like that. One was left, one was right (due to a bug, or something). If you used both at the same time, your character somehow managed to kick with both legs at once without falling over.

Mice should have four buttons as standard, not three.. bind each one to a different arm or leg, then err use your imagination for alt fire or something.. Mice should look like mobile phones, all those buttons on the top instead of dotted about the sides would be neat :)
