Kinda proof that HL2 has not gone gold yet.

Ive been reading all the new post on this site lately about if hl2 is delayd or not. This is not an delay thread but just relateing to it. It just hit me a min ago that warez groups.... yes warez groups always release games like a few days befor release date. If HL2 went gold sercretly It should be shiping any day now. How in gods name they are gonna ship the game to every store in the US 1 day befor release is beyond me. Im not trying to incourage people to go out and pirate this. All im saying is if it wants to make its 30th date it should ship to stores a few days befor and then we should *but sadly* see some group releaseing it

Gabe said they'd be making a gold announcement...so it has obviously not gone gold yet. Whoever said anything about it being shipped to distributors the day before the 30th? It could start shipping on Monday, for all you know.

Did you just read anything I just said? If it went gold then it has be shiping soon right? So the stores that are geting it now have people that are in some warez group will go up and take an copy and release it on the net. That has yet to happen so there for it must not be shiping yet and its coming pretty D@mn close to the 30th. Gone gold? No.

Gold announcements are usually made a few days after the game actually goes to the distributors.

^^ um, dude. these days most warez releases dont happen until after the game hits retail. Halo has been gold for over a week and there isnt a warez version out yet. What you said has no bearing on half-life 2's release date.

Did you read anything I just said? I said it hasn't gone gold yet, which it hasn't. If it hasn't gone gold yet, obviously it won't have started shipping to distributors. But yes, when it does start shipping, all manner of Warez groups (FLT, Deviance) will begin slapping it up on IRC. There's one user off of Packet News whose claiming he has HL2 flt at 1.3gb, but hes not logged on.

True. Official announcements usually come days if not weeks after the event has taken place.

I'm hoping it does...most likely if next week will mark the start of Steam beginning to distribute it to hard drives for those that choose to aquire the game that way.

Only leaked games get warezed early.. Betas and such get leaked by testers and full games get leaked by reviewers and/or inside sources. Valve is to smart to let anyone they don't know well or trust to play their game and risk it getting pirated. And I am sure they also have some pretty good file protection on it since all the brilliance and money that went into developing such a popularly demanded game. Although it might and probably will get warezed, I hope most people use common sense and buy the game instead as it will be probably the best game that has been released in a long time. Everyone that wants to play MP will have to buy it, and I am sure that makes up for the majority of the people interested in playing the game in the first place.

Valve is keeping HL2 tighter than an air-sealed biohazard containment facility. Just because some moronic asshole hasn't stolen a copy doesn't mean it's going to be delayed.

I love it now how since the supposed gold date has passed now everybody thinks they dont have to annouce it. No they dont, but why not? People just need to realize that it hasnt gone gold, and its goin get delayed, oh well. And I sure hope im wrong.

I never said that I know everything. Im just speaking in reason. 10 days is cutting it alittle short. And as I have read going gold also marks the end of development. And the start on the first patch.

Games ship on their release date, and are in stores the day after.

So HL2 ships on the 30th, and is in stores the next day.

Is that how it is? Most games are leaked because they sit in the back of EB or where ever for a week before its release date.

Roger that! I think that this game is worth it to go out to the store or download off of steam. Anyway, the more money Valve gets the more they have to spend on the development of HL3.

I just thought of something. Perhaps the game has already gone gold and that is Valve intentionally with holding any 'going gold' announcements in order to thwart the warez groups. A game as big as Half Life 2, you know all those pirating groups are desparately seeking to release this game before its official release date. Perhaps this is just some grand experiment with cooperation (secretly) of the higher-ups from the various retail outlets - an experiment to see how far they can go to thwart those damn pirates.
