Ok, the reason i'm making this thread is because, i want you guys to help me out here. I dont know what to get for Christmas, KOTOR 2 or WoW.

Now i loved the first game, totally blew me away.

And i have never played an MMORPG before.

Now if i buy WoW i'm going to be playing it for one month, because i dont have enough money to continously pay for it.

So, what should i get? WoW for one month, or KOTOR 2?

there is your answer :)

That's a tough one :)

I doubt KOTOR 2 will last you a month, so the fact you'll only subscribe to WoW for that long doesn't make much difference (but you'll always have the option to subscribe further down the line - you may fall in love with it)

Then again, KOTOR 2 should be as amazing as the first. But WoW also looks amazing :)

arrggh - I don't know either :(

KOTOR2 looks amazing, but WoW is GODLIKE, anyone played the beta, damn thats the best thing i have ever played.

Yeah, if you happen to get some extra cash from like a birthday of something you always have that option to subscribe to WoW like Warbie is saying. Plus WoW is fekking awsome.

Then again if you are really really into KOTOR then maybe the sequel could be better for you.(assumeing the first had could replay value, i never played myself)

World of Warcraft is the best game ever, I reccomend it to anyone.

I would sell my body to continously pay for it... that is if I didn't have the cash :D

WoW won't feel as satisfying because you would loose everything when the month ends unless you get some more money... unless you're thinking to come back in a year, the server saves your character

KOTOR II will be there forever.

I'd buy WoW either way. Its the best game i've ever played. KOTOR2 won't last 1 month, so play WoW for 1 month instead because it will last alot longer than 1 month, and you'll probably find a means to pay for it anyway..you could'nt play WoW for 1 month and walk away from it without going insane.

hmm... i'd say WoW because you'll have a complete month of new experiences with it, being such a huge game.
Kotor 2 looks alright, but it probably wont last a month, although the original Kotor had replayability as evil/good this time, its not on the same scale as WoW.
I'd go for WoW for a month, thats what im doing when its out ;)

like poeple have said, WOW will last for years, while KOTOR 2 will last a couple of weeks. i'm going to buy both, but i reccomend you to buy WOW. The fee is small, and you get to play with real characters rather than getting to know NPCs.

I should've read your post before I voted. If you're only going to play WoW for a month then i'd say get KOTOR 2.

WoW. Find a way to pay for the monthly subscription. WoW simply is one of the best games I have ever played. And I've been playing PC Games for over 7 years now.

how about you ask for a WoW gamecard for christmas? that way, you can buy WoW yourself and get the month free, plus whatever time is on the gamecard. hopefully that should give you enough time to save up and get KOTOR2 as well.

but definitely invest in WoW, it'll last you much longer.

So who here that thinks KOTOR2 is the better choice of the two has played WoW or even an MMO? :hmph:

I'd say KotoR 2, but note that I'm talking about the one month only scenario. Seems to have passed a lot of people by that...

"WoW will last years!" "But I only wanted to know about its benefits in a single month peri-" "I SAID WOW WILL LAST YEARS YOU POSER!!" :p

A linear RPG like KoToR will be brilliant during the week or so you complete it, then it'll go stale (unless you rapidly forget the events therein or really like replaying as a different character type, which I tend to)- it'll be a great game in the short term. I'd comment on WoW but I despise MMORPGs as a rule... it's getting a decent enough representation here as it is.

Well the majority appear to be saying WoW over KOTOR 2.
I know KOTOR 2 is the exact same thing as the first game but with a different story. But most of you guys here who have played it, say its the best game ever, or at least of this year.

So i think i might take a chance and go with WoW. I can always rent KOTOR 2. After all its only something to last me until the end of January, when Year 12 begins.

i need to ask, is WOW is type of mmorpg where it gets so addictive you cant stop, or is it more like, " ye i can see myself playing this for a long time, but it doesnt necersarily need to be today". because basically, i wanna get it in january when its released, but i also have exams in february, will it rape my revision or will i be able to balance both?

If KOTOR2 is half as good as KOTOR, I would buy it. I loved KOTOR, probably my second favourite game of all time. I played it through 3 times, so I got about 60-70 hours of play out of it. But then again, MMORPG's really don't do it for me. I gave SWG a go, and to be honest, I thought it was wank.

Yeah it is that type of game. The one where you don't want to stop playing it.

Yeah....because SWG is wank!. The last game that i played that gave me as much enjoyment as WoW was FF7 and its even better than FF7 which was the best game ever made until WoW popped up and took its place. It makes other PC games seem like demo's and a complete rip-off.

So is it probably suicidal to get WoW for christmas even tho i have revision and work to do? Reckon i could balance it? or is it just not gonna happen....

when i play WOW, i usually don't stop playing it untill i go to bed. the only way i can stop playing it is if i dont start playing it in the first place :D

but the great thing about WOW is the rest system. sure, if you play all day you'll level up fast... but the longer you are not playing the game, the more "rested" you are. being "rested" gived you double the EXP when you kill monsters, meaning if you dont play for a few days you'll find it easier to catch up with you're mates, who have been laying rock solid.

in WoW can you buy houses, mounts and factories that mass produce stuff to set up shop? can u also buy random bits and bobs do decorate guildhalls/houses? and what is the character cusomisation like?

Nah you can't buy houses. The reason being is so these 'farmers' have'nt got a whole lot of storage.

You can buy mounts, they don't start till level 40 though and range from 40g to 1000g - there is rare ones but i've no idea how much they cost or where you find them.

No mass producing in this game...the game has its own ingame macro system and you can also tell it to E.G, Smelt all 200 copper ore into copper bars so you don't have to sit and mindlessly click over and over, but apart from that there are no ways to make the game easier and those that are (bots - speed hacks) you'll be instantly banned and your characters deleted.

How do the mounts work?

Do you just pay the 40g or so and then whenever you want you can just summon the mount, for as many times as you want?

Actually paladins and warlocks get free mounts and level 40.

To buy a mount, it costs 90 G for the lvl 40 mount. It costs 1000 gold at lvl 60. I don't believe it costs much (in terms of mana) to cast your ride.

actually i think the 1000g mounts ARE the rare mounts... excluding the paladin and warlock (or is it mage?) mounts.

Balancing. On the World of Warcraft forums, somebody did a comparision for a Warlock and it costs them approximately 100 Gold extra to buy all the spells and abilities they need compared to another class.

I imagine it is the same with Paladins. I can't pull a single mob, I have to pull all of them at once. I didn't get my first class quest until lvl 12. I also think my spells/abiliites seem much more expensive than what it cost my priest in open beta. Plus, one of our main features (plate armor) kicks in a lvl 40 which requires the expenditure of a bunch of gold if we still want to be tanks. (warriors can compensate by having a crapload more hitpoints than paladins).

Well this is only what i've read from the WoW site ...

There are rare mounts out there to discover!

And the 1000g mount is sold around the 5-10 level area for the Night Elf's...so not what i'd say 'rare' :P

Paladin's are special. The paladin mount is a horse, like the humans, only wearing clothes :p (A Warhorse) and the Warlocks is a horse, like the humans, but has eyes on fire and hooves on fire (Warlock Felsteed).

the 1000g mounts are called 'Epic Mounts' and are only available to lvl 60 folks (i think). they go about 40% faster than normal mounts.

and the paladin mount isn't exactly 'free'. you have to do a multi-chained quest and travel to Kalimdor (enemy territory) to do some of the quests. it's quite tough, and a mount is a good reward for all that hard work.

You're a paladin and you're talking about how rough you have it?

Good God...
