I just bought KOTOR (I, not II) today and I must say it's a wonderful game. However, there's this annoying bug that's really getting on my name, whenever i enter a new area 1 out of 5 times KOTOR will crash. I've checked their website but there's nothing about that bug. It's not a crippling bug, if I save before entering a new area I won't lose my progress, but it's really really annoying. Anyone has had this issue before?

I had that, so I brought it for xbox.

I only had that with a warezed version.. you patched it?
i had the problem both before and after I patched. Do you mean auto-patch through the Update option or download a patch manually? I only auto-patched.

Edit: Ritz, you bought the game twice???

I did not have that problem with KOTOR, I do have it with KOTOR2 though.

Its weird and annoying but not that bad. At least it gives moments to remind myself of the time :P

do you have an ATI card? because apparently the game has trouble with these cards.
if so go here http://swforums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html?topic=383347&forum=80
yeah i have an ATI X300 (trying to save up for a new one). Looks like I'll have to wait for ATI's new drivers.

Edit:

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: Loading the Dantooine level of the game under Windows XP no longer results in slow game performance
, from the ATI Catalyst drivers site. They dont mention anything about the crashing and black environment though.

Dammit, Dantoine still runs slowly even though the new drivers specifically stated that dantooine does not run slowly.

If you haven't already

Go to your kotor folder and seek out the file called "swkotor.ini".
and under [Graphics Options] add the following line:

Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

I don't have kotor installed so I can't really remember if the file is still named "swkotor.ini" but seek it out anyway and try adding the line, it helped me.

I installed the patch after the game kept on crashing when you freeing your friends from the starship detention centre. Now, when choosing certain dialogue, the game doesn't continue (doesn't crash, you can't escape to the main menu, and the characters are still moving slightly) and you have to Ctrl+Alt+Del just to get out of it
