I recently recieved an AMD AThlon XP 2700+ advertised at 2.17 GHz. When I loaded up my system after installing the chip, I saw that it was being recognized as an AMD Athlon XP 2100+, and not a 2700+. So I went into the bios and changed the front side bus from the default 133 to 166. This however lead to a black screen on reboot, and I had to switch the CMOS jumpers to reset the bios.

The multiplier was set to auto, meaning it was at 13x (the factory settings for the chip) and the voltage for teh processor was set to auto also. I tried updating my BIOS, but that did nothing. The only thing that I can think of would be a lack of power from the power supply, (350 watt, came with the case) or something wrong with the Voltage settings, but that is less likely.

Is there a jumper on the board for the FSB? Sometimes there is a jumper near the CPU that you can set from pins 1-2 (133) to 2-3 (166/200) or something like that.

Look up your current bios version and maybe you will need to flash your bios so it works. Not sure.

From memory, the KT333 supports DDR333 or PC2700 but the bus speeds were still 266(133) back then.

Nope, no jumper for FSB, it can only be changed through the BIOS, not the board. I have flashed the BIOS with the latest version so I don't think that could be it. And I have one stick of PC 2100 at 133 MHz (256mb) and another stick of PC 2700 at 166 MHz (256mb).

Sorry for the double post, but I figured it out with some help from a 'friend'. Basically the RAM didn't have the FSB speed to match the processor, so the system wouldn't start because the RAM wouldn't overclock that far. I took out the PC 2100 RAM and it worked fine. Except for the completely wasted stick of $100 RAM.
