Kurt Wimmer Adapting Metal Gear Solid?

Equilibrium was a pretty decent low budget action movie, but from what I've heard Ultraviolet was pure shit. Not to be too cynical but I think he got lucky with a halfway decent 1984 knockoff script and made a serviceable movie out of it.

I'm not writing the guy off but Equilibrium wasn't a masterpiece ... he still needs to prove himself and Ultraviolet didn't seem to help any. I'd rather see a more experienced and talented director tackle the game, but Wimmer is a far better choice than most video game adaptations receive.

Max Payne wound up with the guy that did Flight of the Phoenix...

...will he be hiding under a cardboard box spraying perfume at dogs for half the film?

...and let's have a PG-13 on it. Woo, wider audience, more money.

Ultraviolet wasn't his fault, they cut near a hour from the movie, not to mention cutting it down to a pg13. He finished his movie then the studio took it from him and re cut it. You should be able to find the interview somewhere out there.

Equilibrium was ****ing great! Not to mention that got ****ed too.

Even so, I never felt there was ANY potential in the film. Honestly I was bored shitless and got the embarrassing feeling of 'Why am I subjecting myself to such a terrible film?' The whole thing just reeked of mediocrity, everything from casting Milla Jovovich as the lead to how he managed to degrade his own 'Gun Kata' from the original film.
