The Game was great. I really can't wait to play this one. Unfortunately, Valve was in a hurry and I didn't get to play it before they moved on. Seriously, couldn't they have spent the whole weekend? I'll bet they weren't there a full 9 hours.
Get the game though, it rocked!
L4D was sick!
The 4 player coop is fantastically done and the zombie controls are great. This game will shake up the FPS world as you currently know it.
My favorite moment in the game was when one of the players was vomited upon and targeted. He ran up some stairs where the rest of his team was waiting with guns in hand and were blazing away down at all the zombies running up the stairs toward the targeted guy. Great stuff. Can't wait to see what this will look like in DX10. There's going to be a write up on it in PCG soon.
i heard from a friend who was at the san jose showdown and while he was at the l4d booth thing he said he heard some valve guys talking about a late july or early aug. realse date...im not sure if he was just being a dick head or if its fo rreal but i hope hes right for god sakes lol
yeah he played for like a half hour he said he basicly shit his pants lol
all of that put into one thing he said he ran into the with and the tank at the same time and he said the witch when it screams id the scariest thing hes ever heard

I thought the releasedate was Christmase-ish?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be late July/Early August for release.

Sounds good. Can't wait.

This is going to be bloody good. ;)

Well not really. Still part of the left4dead community and we all think a Summer release as well. The mods have answered our questions and it sounds very much done. The only things that were not done were mainly the infected side and the HUD. It looks like all of that is done now because they did a public play test and was very successful. It probably will come out this Summer but who knows. :) They have to get the stat pages up before the release though which I suspect may happen early July or the end of this month.

Woah! I really need a new MP game. Please let it be this summer!

Oh and that's all the media/screens there is from the LAN event?

I can't believe how well this game is shaping up - when it was first announced, I didn't think much of it, but it's on my want list for sure now

is there a full transcript of gabe's keynote anywhere?

That's the weird part about this event that everybody has been waiting for since Saturday. What you saw posted is what has come out of the event so far. It mainly sounded like people really didn't care about anything except getting free t-shirts and ogling at hot girl gamers that were there. They also had some stupid other competitions like some wheel barrow race idk and pizza. It really sounds like nobody gave a shit and Valve were in a hurry to leave. Valve nor Turtle Rock or anybody has said anything yet and it's really frustrating now! ;( The other part about this event was that you could'nt video tape stuff and had to ask if you could take a picture. Guess some people never took a camera into a concert lol. :hmph:

Sounds like the event was a complete waste of time. :|

i really cannot wait for this game ... every piece of news and screenshot, not to mention videos of it have got me hyped

Cant wait for this, i got a few people ready to play this.
The event sounds like a complete failer.

MEDIA IS HERE!!!
In fact there is so much that you just have to visit these forums to see all the pictures: http://www.flamehaus.com/bbs/2-vt124433.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

Most I could find for right now. It looks like the buddy pages are very near beta. It looks like Natural Selection to the max with zombies and all this other cool shit. I want this game so badly lol. Expect a PCG podcast too because the Vede and Dan, etc were all there. Maybe a few videos perhaps?

One of the haus members said Q4 2007. :bonce: Who know though? He still didn't hear it from an official person.

New scan on L4D on the left4dead411 forums. Can't post the link to illegal scans though so search for yourself lol. Don't like that Winter ETA.

I am very pleased to announce some new media has come out from ShadowLAN!!! It's very late but it's still cool: At 3:41 the media starts. It looks ****ing brutal, fast paced, and chaotic! Zombies catch on fire and you can see a smoker choking a person. I'm mainly worried at how the regular zombies can jump like that. Should hold you guys off until E3.
Well, first off, let me mention that we had the developers hovering over our shoulders while we were playing- both to give the occasional gameplay tip, as well as to observe any useful player feedback. One guy mentioned to my brother that the pipe-bombs and molotov cocktails were extremely useful for clearing out large groups of zombies. I believe my brother failed to hear the follow-up comment, which was "Just make sure you don't use them indoors". Now, my brother jumps out of his skin and screams regularly when playing doom 3, so he's easily shake-able. At the start of our first run, as soon as 4-5 zombies rush at us, he decides that this constitutes a huge crowd, and lets a molotov cocktail fly. Unfortunately this ignites the entire ****ing apartment that we're trying to make our way through, burning us all to death. (At least the zombies didn't get the satisfaction of eating us, I guess.) This was immediately followed by us beating his ass in real life, and racous laughter erupting from the large crowd behind us.

I got several more chances to play over the weekend. If I had to emphasize one thing about the gameplay it'd be how absolutely paramount teamwork and cohesion appears to be. The developers tried to emphasize this on their presentation onstage, and boy is it true. If you try to run off and pull a john-rambo in this game, you quickly turn to zombie-food. You really have to cover one another's backs. If a teammate is overwhelmed by zombies, he gets knocked to the floor, where he tries to stave them off with pistols, as you see in the video. A teammate must "help you back to your feet" when you're in this state.

Another cool touch is that if you are killed, it is possible for you to rejoin the action later in the campaign. What's left of your party can come across an isolated survivor somewhere else in the city, barricaded in a corner or locked in a closet. If they find & release him, you're back in the game. (Albeit with only a pistol to fight with, but as soon as you find a weapons cache, you're back in business.)

The witch boss-character is especially ****ing frightening looking.

The hunter boss-character is one of the playable zombies, and the developers did a good job controlling these guys. Oftentimes we'd look behind us to see the silouette of this hunter zombie stalking us by jumping from rooftop-to-rooftop-to-balcony. Very disconcerting.

Getting puked on by the methane-filled, "Boomer" zombie makes all zombies in the area go nuts and focus their attacks on you solely.

Some doors are lockable, so it looks like fortifying areas is an important gameplay element.

A full campaign takes about an hourish to complete, and it's split into 3-4 (I believe) segments.

When injured badly, your movement speed drops and you gimp around. Animation is very, very well done. It is also incredibly satisfying to see the zombies drop when you shoot em. I don't ever recall seeing a repeated death animation for any of em. I'm sure repeat animations are used, but I saw hundreds of zombies die, and it's done well enough that it all looks very dynamic.

The AI Director that the devs talk about works like a charm. I wouldnt've noticed it, but the swells/lulls of gameplay keep things very interesting. Nobody was bored playtesting this game, but nobody was overwhelmed either. You form a really quick camraderie with your other party members.
Left 4 Dead is RIDICULOUSLY fun. No trailer I saw of it beforehand even REMOTELY did it justice. I can't WAIT for this baby to come out.

What the hell is he talking about with death animations. Uhhh what happened to ragdoll? Or is this guy just a bit slow.

It has animation blending. A mix of ragdoll and animation.

So is there even a month of release or are we stuck guessing which quarter it will come out?

Video doesnt work for me. Is it me or is youtube down?

NVM and HOLY SHIT! CANT WAIT!

Some people say Winter some people say this Summer. Hopefully we will find out this E3. MultiVaC is right about the death animations too.

That mechanical bull made me laugh. I used to do gigs with my brother, he owned a mechanical bull. It was painful to watch them ride.
