These two Froud/Henson movies seem to be ones that people either love or hate.

Personally, I loved both of them; they were the most original things I'd seen in a while. The music in Labyrinth is the toe-tappingest stuff I've ever heard in a movie, and the world of the Dark Crystal was brilliantly realised.

Those Skesis used to make me hide behind the couch, though.:E

What do you think? Discuss, opinionate, and flame me if you must...

Seeya.

I want to have David Bowie's love child, none the less I am renting the Labyrinth through netflix soon.

not a fan of the dark crystal but the labyrinth is a great film...

all I can remember from Laby is that peeing dwarf.

I liked sir Didymus best. Never was sure what he was supposed to be, though.

Labrynth is pretty tight. Speaking of which, I'd plug every orifice on Jennifer Connelly's tight little body.

plug it with what? ...confused?

Remind me of the babe!
what babe?
The babe with the power...
What power?
The power of the voodoo
Who do?
You do!

:E

bugger just noticed it was on only the other day too, damn :)

not seen Dark Crystal in forever though, too lazy to buy the DVD heh

I never heard of him or his films.

Moreover I like action movies.

Is Dark a drama or action?

You've never heard of Jim Henson??

Kermit the Frog? Muppets? Farscape even too I think :)

He was like the king of puppets and is sorely missed

Farscape, Yeah I heard of this one. I watched all of the 4 episods for 5 years. but is it the director who made farscape?

Dark Crystal is a fantasy with, I suppose, some action elements. It's set on a far away world in "the Age of Wonder".

This world posesses a gigantic crystal that provides a focus for the energy of its three suns, whenever something called a "Great Conjunction" (basically all three suns aligning) occurs. This happens about every 3000 years, from what I understand, and rejuvenates the world each time.

During the last conjunction, the crystal was damaged by a race of advanced beings called the UrSkeks, who sought to separate out the good and evil parts of themselves.

When this occured, the crystal darkened, and the evil components, who call themselves the Skesis, took control of the castle in which the crystal is sited. The good parts, called UrRu, left for a secluded valley.

At first appearing to be kind and generous, the Skesis soon showed their true nature when they began to enslave two less mature races, the Gelflings and Podlings. Despairing of their plight, the prophets of the Gelflings predicted that, one day, the Skesis reign would be ended by the hand of a Gelfling, and the corrupted crystal, through which the Skesis now drew their power, would be repaired by the same.

This frightened the Skesis in the extreme. They instituted a policy of genocide in regard to Gelflings, aided in the act by their genetically engineered soldiers, giant beetle-like creatures known as Garthim.

That was many years ago, and now only one Gelfling is known to have survived. His name is Jen, and he has been charged with the task of locating the missing shard of the crystal, and restoring the Dark Crystal to its former glory. He's a little reluctant.

If you want to know more, you should watch the movie.

it would make a great mod

come on, you knew I was about to say that ;)

Actually, I agree. Brian Froud, the concept artist, probably wouldn't mind. He believes in faeries;).

Ask him, worst he can say is no :)

Me too, far end of Leeds, can find em everywhere ;)

A Dark Crystal mod might be more of a world simulator/exploration game than an action game. Maybe.

EDIT: Actually, I believe in 'em too. Ever heard of the Min Min light?

Interesting explanation by that dude... but wrong:E. Reflected/refracted lights don't take the form of a little glowing purple sphere, and they don't hover just over your shoulder;).

Aussie faeries, I'm telling ya.:E

I never read it, not fully, just saw the bit where it says floaty lights and that was enough for me to get the jist of it. Might put em in my mod for a laugh, see if you notice them :)

Interesting movie fenric and Brain,

but is the FX and motion capture live to its story line?

or
is it just another big junk because of the bad directing?

if you have a link or pictures, clips posts them please....

Try this link: http://lavender.fortunecity.com/tomatoes/168/darkcrys/index-b.html

It's a fansite, but I'm not sure if the movie has an official one.

Darn good directing, it's a pretty old movie (1980's), so no CGI. Absolutely no human actors in the movie. It's all done with rather lifelike puppets. Not sure what you mean by motion capture.

EDIT: Bloody hell, Fenric:E. Did you go google it too? I'd already visited the site before (no, really) but didn't have its address.

I guess DC does need a certain taste to enjoy it. The really weird thing is, considering my hobbies and background and work.. I'd refuse point blank to watch DC if it was remade in CG or as a cartoon. Prolly cause being a CG guy I know full well how people like me would totally ruin the characters with waaaaaaaaay too much movement to show off what we can do... we suck like that haha

There's been rumors of a sequel going around for years. If they do make one, I hope it's with puppets. Just CGI for FX, etc.

Hey, I'm a Strider now! Tremble at the steps of my weirdly-shaped feet, everyone!

EDIT: I'm catching up to ya, Fenric.:E

yeah, it'll work best with puppets.. hmm wonder if i could wangle my way into the art department on a sequel, that would be cool :)

and im not playing raise my rank :P

Labyrinth is a very, very weird movie.
I'd have probably loved it if I had watched it 5 years ago...now I just think its funny, and I crack up everytime Bowie is onscreen.
