The main reason I quit playing BF2 was because of this issue, I get lag for no reason at all in BF2, but my ping is never higher than 50 and my fps never goes above 40 or so, but if I stand still, the game runs fine, but when I start moving I rubber band and get a bunch of Network Connection BS on my screen from BF2 and I eventually get dropped

I figure that now the game has been out for awhile, someone would know how to fix this (no I don't run anything in the background and I've played with all the recent patches updated, still the same problem)

oh, and specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (clocked at 2 GHz)
1024MB DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB

I can run Prey maxed out, so I doubt it's my specs that are the problem

what r ur computer specs? What GFX levels do u play the game on?

Have u manually updated PB?

Specs are in first post, I play on Max w/o AA/AF and I haven't manually updated PB

U say u can run PREY maxed out, so can i, but its a completly diff game engine. PREY uses the Doom 3 engine, which is not that technologically advanced nowadays.

BF2 uses it own engine & is far more superior demanding, i would recommed u play with the settings, definatly turn Texture to either LOW or MED, lighting to off aswell with shadows, or LOW.

Go here for sum help with your settings.

PS i run top 3 settings HIGH, all rest LOW apart from Texture Filtering HIGH. and i average 40fps.

U might also want to play on server no max than 40ppl. 64 ppl on ur setup is a killer and means ur going to get lag.

if its network connection stuff you're getting then it shouldn't have anything to do with your computer specs.
Check your connection settings, make sure you have all programs that use your connection turned off when you play, and make sure your connection is set to '256k or higher' in the BF2 settings, not 'T1 or LAN.'

not entirely correct, U cant expect to run a slow system on a high bandwidth without a downfall. The computer will be the backlog for the internet.

he is wanting to play BF2 of all high settings with his epcs, its a no go deal.
plus he could have a 10MB connection, it aint going to help him, he may get a ping of 2 but his computer will still lag as the processer, gpu is not fast enought to send & distrubute the information as fast as the connection, therefor creates a system lag.

There's a difference between FPS lag and Network lag, this is clearly network lag, I can still look around and stuff, but I can't move around and everything is frozen, it's not a problem with my mouse jumping around like normal FPS lag

yes i know there is a difference, but ui say u run everything on high with that setup, your bound to run into issues matey, BF2 requires 1.5GB to 2GB of RAM to run on textures high with no issues.

whats ur connection? What fps do u get in game? How mamy ppl server do u go on?

have u scanned ur system for spyware/adware/viruses?

I've scanned for spyware and such, I have cable internet (2mb or something) and I get about 30-40 fps in BF2

manually update ur PB...download pbsetup.exe

Then download it to...C:\Program Files\BF2\PB - presuming thats where u iinstalled it to?

And then run it in there, it will tell u whether u need an update or not.
i

what servers u connecting to? R they local, or across the globe?

Try connecting to one with about 24players in & see if u lag or not. I rekon u r playing n servers with 35 to 64 players on, which will kill u.

Seeing as you're running the game on the absolute highest settings, and you only have a gig of RAM, I would consider doubling up on that.

BF2 tends to hog a lot of memory. A LOT of memory. My friend has the exact same specs as you, but he runs the game on medium and still manages to get some sort of lag. And I don't think pulling the detail levels down will help much. My friend has almost the exact same specs as you, runs the game on low/medium settings, and still manages to get some form of lag (even though his FPS remains between 30 and 60, as does his ping).

Personally, it almost blows me away that you're able to run the game at high settings at all without your computer taking out a city block. It's not dualcore, it's only 2GHz, and you're running a video chipset that's going on two years old.

What I would do, right now, is figure out what sort of speeds your RAM is running at. SiSoftware SANDRA is a good all-around tool for checking out your system's specs in-depth. Figure out what speed your RAM is at (DDR-??? and PC-????), and post them here. While the lag could be caused by a relative lack of RAM, it could also be caused by slow transfer speeds to and from memory. Could be a motherboard limitation or a BIOS setting which would cause that.

Anywho, check if you're running slow RAM, and if so, you should consider getting another gig. But honestly, I would try turning detail settings down and holding out until you can get a new motherboard/CPU/GPU.

:D

I'm kind of getting something like this. I'm stuttering around, and rubberbanding alot. I think this patch is failing, and fast. :(

me 2, been uber laggy since the last patch. I'm also on a 2mb connection.

I usually sort servers by ping and go for the lowest I can find, between 0 and 60, at least these are playable.

roll on 2142 :D

Since you have only 1GB of RAM you really need to put the Textures option on Medium instead of High. 1.5GB or higher is a good requirement for High Textures, so it can store all of them in the memory. Try lowering just that to Medium and see what happens.

QFT

I have a 6800 + 1 Gig of Ram and it can't handle High Textures, you need a minimum of 1.5 gigs of ram to do that.

yeah same i have a gig and a x800xt and need medium to stop the crazy stuttering i get at high, i have lighting at medium too i think

I have a gig of ram+ X800 Pro and can run high textures perfectly fine...

I have 2 gigs of ram
x1800XT
AMD 3200+

And all my shit was on high, lowered it down to medium *Shadows and such off* and I was getting the same "framelossy" effects...

1.5 gigs of ram
6600gt
amd 3800+ x2

Ultra high everything. (forced)

Runs great.

Well I guess you can just wait and hope that 1.4 fixes it. :/

Holy shit, whatever was done, fixted every problem of mine!

Warcraft 3 had random issues, fixted
Battlefield 2 had random issues, fixted
Need For Speed Most Wanted had random issues, mostly fixted

Some patch for the AMD dual core processors or something....a friend came over, installed it, and now games run perfectly. I'm in love. BF2 max settings again. :D

Ah the AMD Dual Core Optimizer. Many people have reported an increase in performance in games that take advantage of dual core technology.

any ideas when is it coming ?
Not atm, but it is currently in Beta 2 so they're working on it. :/

I have not gotten lag yet. I do have a problem though when you log in and it is connecting to account server or something like that... but anyway it takes like 10 min to get passed that part!

Delete your account and then log into it again. This will make it go faster. Just note that you'll have to redo all your settings such as sensitivity and keys. ;)

Where can I find this patch or whatever it is?

Today I've been disconnected SO many times I'm about to kill something. I've never had this problem in the past.

I'm currently in my routers DMZ, firewalls turned off, and somehow I still manage to get random "connection lost" messages.

It's like pulling teeth to stay in a server for more than 20 minutes right now. D:

Thanks, hopefully this will help.

Edit:

This program seemed to fix my lost connection problems. It fixes some regestry items that have been corrupted... well it explains it better on that page than I could, take a look if your having connection problems.

I'm glad I'm fixing peoples problems. D:

Not that program. D:

This program.

Btw on that program are there any bechmark tests with that installed. Like something to measure improvements?
