Lag Spike

Hey guys, the game runs like a charm and looks perfectly. The only problem is that every once in a while, I will notice my team mates/enemy freeze up for like a sec, and at the same time, my ping would have had jumped high. How Do I fix this, it is very annoying. That one sec can make difference between life and death

I have adsl 1.5 meg down and 756 up

P4 2.4 with 1.25 gig of ram
geforce 6800 gt
winxp sp2
