Hello,

Some of you might have already heard of Lambda Co-Op, the mod for half life 2.

Lambda looks to greatly expand on the general idea of Co-Op game play by intoducing player classes and an experience/skill system similar to those seen in RPG games (Think TFC meets Diablo).

Anyway the mod is based upon and expands upon the half life universe and will make use of the history revealed in all of the HL titles.

The mod site has been finished for a week but our hosts are lazt, we will hopefully find hosting here once the full site is back up.

Anyway you can see our concept art here as well as the Mod Database link supplied.

Enjoy.

Comments? Suggestions? Ideas?

How is this different from Sven Coop for HL2? They are getting support from Valve themselves, and if it is anything like SC for HL there will be FPG type maps where you level up w/ different classes.

That concept art is really cool, but somehow I doubt the mod will resemble it if it even ever gets off of the ground.

GREAT artwork, reminds me of Black Isle style.
Also, I hope it will be co-op, but like single-player? I don’t really understand what is mod about, can you explain some more? Like give some background story.

I've been a fan of Sven's work for a long time, we have already talked about the mods and we are both aiming for VERY different things.

Damn, that artwork is awesome!

edit: I mean... jeez. You've got enormous talent dude/gal/whatever. :)

The artwork is excellent, I like how the gas-mask image is used in different ways, like in the ship picture on the second page. Nice job, who ever painted those. Did they use Painter?

BTW, I like the idea of a co-op game with different roles.
The only problem I find with co-op is that it's very static. In multiplayer competition, your enemy is always trying new things to outwit you. In co-op, you're playing against the AI, which executes the same code every time you play. I'd like to see some kind of randomization element, like for instance, you're fighting through city17 for the 10th time with your buddies, but this time you're surprised when you disturb a nest of hungry ant lions in a bombed out building.

I have had my eye on that mod for a while :).... looking good, art wise :) I love the dark imagery that picture evokes, suggesting a massed battle on Xen... good job, whoever did that :)

It can all be done with the half life 2 AI, there will be alot of new enemy types too.

What about that research team sent into xen? will you get to be them or are you the HL1 marines?

i find this funny...on your moddb site. some guy posted this..

this is all lies that artwork is not yours. a artist named Sparth drew them and you have no idea how to make a mod..alot of coding is required it just isnt that simple, but if you think that then you will not get far. OH and using stolen work to show off the mod isnt showing how good it is..use real screenshots. NOT STOLEN ART. ok that will not show how good this "mod" is going to be. good day and i hope you guys have tons of luck becuase you WILL need it.

and on most of the concept pics...the word "SPARTH" is in the corner..
im guessing either SPARTH is on your team, or somebody is ripping ;)

a explanation would be nice :afro:

I believe I remember them saying in another thread that he gave them permission to use it...
... and in the moddb gallery if you view the big pictures it says this under the pictures:
"Gallery Image Description
This image is property of Sparth and so is covered by artist copy write law.
Any distribution of these images without permission is considered theft.
These pictures may not be distributed or edited in anyway without prior permission from the artist."

as far as i have read MAgnetic know this Sparth in private, and have permission to use his art...! :)

i think i have to add a few points about yesterday's little blahblah. i got angry for several reasons, but i would not want to see some peeps being accused of ripping some art, as it is not the case. i was concerned about my images being spread on the web a little bit too easily, but in no way i was speaking about art steal.
i guess it's always interesting when these misunderstandings happen, as it allows us artists to be more precise about these future demands, and i'm sure it will be handled better from now on.
i wish good luck to the mod for the near future, and hope it will ..... kick ass!
to finish with this subject, i also got confused in my mails, as i received several answers from people wanting to use my art. i especially want to apologize for having sent a mail to reno, a person that had absolutely nothing to do with this mess.
concerning the next tutorial, it will be ready in the next few days, maybe even tomorrow or .... tonight?. chek out soon for more art posts. later ....

JUNE 07 - 2003

i was a bit surprised today, to find out that there were a lot of peeps coming to my site from halflife mapping mods. some days ago, a very kind person from a hl mod asked me about using an image for inspiration. i told him that it was okay from the moment the image was being shown with the author's name attached somewhere. but while wandering around the web, i find out that this mod had been using 30 images from my site, also sending images to major gaming sites assuming that these images were strictly attached to this mod. it was an illegal situation according to me, and i mailed this same person about that fact. i then told him that borrowing images fro the entire site was obviously not something possible, and he indeed removed most of these images. however, as this mod does not involve any money, i gave permission to the mod to use 10 images, stated by mail, in order for me to write these down.
now to be honest, this mod maker should have known that no matter the reason, using such an image must be done carefully. it is obvious that grabbing all you can from a site is not something decent, such an autorisation was supposed to be given for inspirational means, or maybe an image, only if the artist's name is credited. not for a complete gallery.
conclusion: images on sparth's colab are protected, and it is not possible to use these without autorisation. ... later

....well i guess that sums it up ;)

what i find funny, hes using those pictures for a game hes working on called USS Antartica ...see

Those pics arnt from Antarctica though.

The images Lambda are using are not linked to anything else.

Sure they may look similar but thats because my friend Sparth was drawing them in his free time while working on the Antarctica project.

Oh and no, there is no ripping off going on.
