Hey everyone, I'm trying to network 2 computers(both on WinXP, using X-over cable, both have working ethernet cards), but for some reason when I set up the 'home network wizard' says that there is limited or no connectivity, and that it needs repairing. When I try to repair it, it says that it "cannot renew my IP address", and the line ipconfig /renew in Command prompt comes up with the error "Unable to contact DHCP server". Any ideas?

THe X-over cable isnt really a X-over cable...or you need to set up one of the pc's as a DHCP server. What that will do is distribute ip's to each of the pc's, because right now it seems like you either have a 0.0.0.0 ip, or a 69.254.*.*

Either one you wont get good performance, and wont be able to do much of anything. I would recomend buying a cheap router or something to set up a network, because chances are your going to want another PC on that network sometime, maybe a friend or something. Its realy just worth it...

Im not a network wizard, but thats what i know....

Yeah it's looking for the DHCP server to give it an IP. You'll have to mess with the settings to either make one of them a DHCP server or turn DHCP off and give it an IP manually.
