AGAIN! When we took it to best buy they just reset the BIOS and charged us $50 for it. I need to know how to reset the BIOS on an HP laptop. Can anyone help?

To get into bios there is a key you press while the computer is first booting and you have the lovely HP logo taking up the whole screen. The key you press varies from computer to computer but IIRC it is F2 for HP computers. Other possibilities are F12 and Delete.

Once you are in the bios you can navigate its menu with the keyboard. The reset command should be fairly obvious like, "Reset to defaults" or "Clear CMOS". From there just follow the on screen instructions.

It seems very strange that that is all they have been doing to 'repair' your laptop.

They could have opened up the laptop and reset the CMOS jumper on the motherboard, not just the settings in the BIOS screen. Maybe they charge $50 for whenever they mess with anything inside a PC? :x

Setting the BIOS settings to default is good to know.

If you want to clear CMOS and you don't want to look for a CMOS reset jumper then the simple thing to do is open up the panels on the laptop and look for the CMOS battery. Remove it for 20seconds to a minute. Should do the same thing as using the CMOS reset jumper.

GeekSquad is a scam. So is FireDog. You can get the same service done for a fraction of the price if you go to a private shop...
