Hey, I just read something that gave me a clue

I came across something - some guy online had a monitor plugged into his laptop.

I just realized I can do that too

So I have a mouse, keyboard and monitor hooked up to a laptop.

I've been wanting a second desktop for a long time because I am often doing something on one PC where I can't run other programs, but I just want to listen to music or something from my Hard drive.

so my next step will be to hook this laptop up to share files with my desktop through an Ethernet cable.

I know you can use a crossover cable, but I'm going to try a workgroup switch box since I have one of those. (don't have a crossover cable)

once I plug it in and everything, I'm going to have to figure out how to do it. I think you just right click the folder you want to share, and set the properties up 'share'

Anyway, I'm pretty hyped. Any suggestions or thoughts?

man, now I really want to really good monitors. Like two Samsung 24" widescreen LCDs. I've got a 17" and a 19" CRT and they are just so big it's hard to fit everything the way I'd like. .. for example, right now my laptop is sitting on a drawer that I pulled out.

So you have a laptop and a desktop?

Like what? Unless it's time-sensitive and really CPU intensive you shouldn't need a second desktop just for hard drive usage.

yeah both.

well, you'd be surprised how much stuff I do

Right now, I'm reinstalling SP3, to fix an issue I'm having where something I did damaged themes. I can't change themes at all. So I'm posting from my laptop while steaming shoutcast (EDIT There we go, that fixed themes) (SP3 fixes any protected system files when you install it)

thinks like creating an avi file from a DVD can take 5 hours.

Defraging over 2 terabytes on my desktop can take several days. Usually do 1 drive at a time overnight though.

I can list a lot more things, but you get the idea

it's very convenient to have two PC's.

put it this way, my desktop is usually between 50 and 100% cpu usage 24 hours a day. I need a dual or quad core

when it gets near 100% it doesn't respond well, and tends to get crashy

50-100% CPU usage of the entire time the system is on? Wow!

Do you do folding or something similar with the system, or this is something the system does on it's own and without you knowing why?

I laugh in the face of malware. ha hah hahhaha I've got my PC tighter than a virgin. Security tighter than Fort Knox, and I don't do anything foolish. Never had problems. The biggest problems I have are that my security is so tight that it's a pain in the ass..

:/

. But. ... If it ever did get overtaken, I would nuke that shit and start over without losing anything important
