One of my friends is trying to play Call of Duty (the old one) on his laptop but it overheats and shuts off after about 15 minutes. He was wondering if he could get it to run more off the cd than the hard drive to keep it from overheating. I don't know that much about hardware stuff so I figured I'd bother y'all about it :P.

He has a Dell latitude d600, with a 1.5 gHz Intel processor, 512 MB ram, Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card.

Any suggestions?

No you can't run (COD) from CD, though this is not the site for COD thech support nor is this the problem your friend's Laptop is having.

Most Desktop/Laptop overheat problems come down to performance issues. Check and compare your laptop spec to COD required spec.

Good Luck.

eh you have to run the game off of the harddrive. ask him if he insulates his laptop well,it shouldnt overheat unless the cooling fan was blocked

Hmm he says his laptop specs are above required, and that he checked the fans and they're alright.

Thanks for the replies.

But it seems to be the site to beat off to / about oblivion. At HALF-LIFE 2.net. Not OBLIVION.net. (someone could make that site and make millions).

Lol that maybe a pretty good idea Stucco.

Well to start with requirements; when you compare laptops to desktops that have the same or similar spec, you must understand that just because both have the same spec, doesn't necessary mean both will perform the same, and that is where people who own laptops usually go wrong.
Original concepts for laptops were to have the convenience of a computer, whenever and wherever you need it. But somewhere along the road people started playing/using large and resource demanding soft wares like COD and HL.
Even if you surpass the recommended spec, eventually you will meet your sworn element of HEAT, after a set period of time. In this case 15 minutes.

Good Luck.
