Okies, well... a friend of mine has a laptop and I will soon be going to stay with them. The problem is, there Laptop is completely ****ed. It blatently needs to be reformated because it has viruses and is simply full of shit.

All I know is that its a Toshiba laptop, the thing I'm not sure about though is what actual spec is inside it. When you come to reformat a laptop is it just the same as you would normally on another computer? She has a lot of toshiba software on the Laptop which makes me think that some stuff is actually required... Basiclly, right now I'm just confused and not sure if I should reformat it or leave it... Anyone got any ideas or suggestions before I fly to America and break someones laptop?

It reformats exactly the same, just pop in the System Restore disc, reboot (make sure you have CD drive set as priority) then voila! follow the instructions for a successful reformat.

The Toshiba crap that comes pre-loaded is 99.9% crap, you don't need it, just make sure she backs up her documents / important stuff (and ensure they're not infected). If the laptop is infected with virus / malware / etc. then there's absolutely no reason not to reformat, why run a crippled machine when you can fix it within an hour or so?
