I'm planning to get a laptop PC soon. I need it for school in the fall, which won't require a fast system. The only problem is that I would eventually want to have a system that could play games. I wouldn't need to play the latest games, maybe ones that are a year or two old. So I was wondering how easy it is to upgrade laptop components. Would it be feasible for me to upgrade the RAM? The video card? or add a DVD drive? I have never owned a laptop so I don't know if it's a smart idea to take them apart.

You can upgarde:
Hard Drive
RAM
Disk Drives (CD, DVD, CD-RW, DVDRW, etc).

Video cards are rarely upgradeable.

RAM: Easy in general, AFAIK. Probably depends on model.
Video card: Next to impossible.
DVD drive: Tricky but possible, in general. Same as RAM.
CPU: Next to impossible.
HD: Reasonably easy.
