Today is the last day with will have to put up with Sierra etc. Tommorow is the begining of EA, whether or not that will be better remains to be seen.

Although amazingly EA's logo isnt on the new retail packages!

Have they actually made any new retail packages yet? Does it still say Sierra on them?

Why, did you do that.

EA dont take over till tommorow so of course its gonna say Sierra on it.

EA's packages come out around 20th of September..

Sorry but you wasted your money:O

I took my retail copy back to EB Games because I thought the discs were screwed up because it gave me errors when I tried to re-install the game. Turns out it had nothing to do with the discs, it was Daemon Tools conflicting with the SecuRom crap. Coincidentally, I now have an extra HL2 cd-key because they gave me a whole new box and everything.

lol its funny how they say pre-release its like hl2 hasnt been out

Bare in mind that these probably aren't the actual boxes, or the completed boxes that EA are selling. They'll either be mock ups made by GameStop or Valve or they just haven't had EA put on them yet.

The boxed versions in shops definitely will.

Anything but EA! EA is the most annoying publishing company! I hate EA ><

i dont get it.. whats so wrong with EA?.. is it beacuse they are so big?

I don't know, but I get the impression they are not very popular at all, EA.

Whatever, I'll miss Sierra. I think it was great that a family company like that should take care of Valve when they were starting out.

There have been a lot of issues regarding poor employee treatment (e.g. 'crunch time' begins at the start of a project, not the last ~6 months) and literally monopolizing parts of the industry (they bought exclusive game development contracts with the NHL and NFL [and NCAA?], forcing the ESPN games to halt development and sale). There has also been the possibility of a hostile takeover of Ubi Soft (many people feel that Ubi's games are of a much higher quality).

I hate EA...but i hate Vivendi more after that legal battle

People are afraid that EA will put pressure on Valve to release games and that the quality of there games will decline because of it. From they way I heard the contract described, it seemed like EA would just be along for the ride and have no actual power over Valve. It sounds like the worst EA could do would be to pull out of the contact, leaving Valve to find some other publisher to make piles of cash off retail sales. Do you really think Valve would let another company have any control over them creativley?

They havnt told us yet.. Valve are now working for EA, its a silent take over.. :O, Valve are soon to be EA's puppet's. dundun dun!

You're right, EA are only handling the marketing side of things. After all, without a decent publisher to help promote HL2, where will they advertise? if someone doesn't have access to the internet or PC magazines, they'll have no idea Aftermath is even coming out. EA will advertise HL2 loads though!

Will this mean that HL will now have their annoying trademark "Tough luck, you sad motherf*cker, you can't press escape to skip this" splash screen?

I am as amazed as you to hear this, but EA have a new logo that plays on their games and its actually quite smart, and doesnt have that ****ing Challenge Everything shit

!:O! That's good news.

...still bet you can't skip the logo...

Actually, I'm curious about that myself. Vivendi didn't stick any intro images onto the front of HL2, will EA do it in some form or another? Will it be for retail-only people?

EWWW!
I really don't want to be forced to watch "EA GAMES! challenge eeevrything!" when I load up HL3
D:<

EA hasn't produced an entertaining game in forever, if ever...now this is personal opinion, but my opinion matters and yours doesn't :p *sarcasm! please don't flame*
I hate the logo, the sports games*any sports game even if it isnt EA*, there gay LotR games, umm The Sims, well you get the point...
I don't want to see anything about them in any part of the game, i don't want them to advertise, i don't want them to touch the game in any way, i would prefer if Valve just marketed their own games...they could get more off of that*i don't know about marketing so i wouldn't know why they don't*.
In the end, i'm against this for personal reasons.

I don't like console FPS...I NEED my mouse and keyboard...

But i didn't know they had there nose in Spore...now im having doubts...

Wow... Valve and EA... DEADLY combo.

With the expertise of Valve, and the financial support of EA... Valve will be able to do anything now.

I just hope EA doesn't get a little too trigger happy, and stay on thier line of agreement.

I doubt EA has any control over Valve with this. IF EA gave valve terms they didn't like, valve could have easily gone to activision(publishing DoD) or somesuch.

Valve doesn't take s*** from no one. They don't like anyone interfering.

According to Valve EA does not have the right do that.

worst decision valve has ever made, probably.
How? ALL EA DOES IS THIS:
Ship future Valve titles to stores.
Yes, EA gets money from retail sales of course. But they don't watch over valve, give money to valve or anything. And advertise(if that was in the contract)

Valve consider themselves a self-publishing company. EA does not mess with valves development, does not take steam sales.

With the expertise of Valve, and the financial support of EA... Valve will be able to do anything now.
Valve self finances everything of theres. Besides Ad's and things, but all the $40 million that went into Game Development for Source\HL2 was all Valve.

I thought I read somewhere that Valve will now be publishing their own games. WTF? What is this EA crap?? EA is responsible for the near unplayable condition of Battlefield2 right now!

I don't actually think that HL2 cover is a mockup by the retailer. It's entirely new art. (it looks minimally similar to the the piece with Gordon holding a pheropod, but here he's got a shotgun). However, how much EA gets plastered over the cover is another matter.

BTW, don't expect the old retail version to just disappear. The agreement isn't that Sierra go around exorcising the shelved stock of Half-Life 2 or anything: they just have no right to manufacture anymore copies. Hence why there is nearly a month between the ceasation of the Sierra version and the release of the EA version.

One concern:

There's an Aftermath strategy guide, there's a Platinum version with Aftermath bundled in... but where is Half-Life 2: Aftermath retail as a solo purchasable expansion? It's probably just a retailer error, but why not put a placeholder for an Aftermath expansion pack if you're putting one for the bundle including it?

Ea are the worst bunch of ****s in the industry, and valve has associated themselves with them. They have now gone down in my estimation, and im not the only one.
