Me purchasing season 2 of Gilligan's Island. I watched the first episode, and this show is so awesome. Haha. I remember watching it all the time as a tyke, and I think I'm going to get all three seasons. At 30+ episodes a season, this is just brilliant. The first being in black and white and the latter two being in colour makes this all the better.
I shall summarize the first episode of season two for thee Halflife2.netters.
In the first episode of season two named 'Gilligan's Mother-in Law', Gilligan is approached by natives from another island. The daughter wants to marry Gilligan as was read through the use of subtitles. See, since they are natives from this tribe, they do not use english. Instead the Professor was able to translate the language which he said is Polynesian and Papu which is spoken on islands to the southwest of them.
Anyway, the castaways must first throw a party for the bride's family. After they consumed their food, they broke out in dance where I saw early glimpses of what we now know as 'hardcore dancing' in Gilligan. He was raising legs, throwing kicks, and using tribal fist pumps.
The following morning Gilligan had to complete two tests to prove he was a worthy husband. The first was to carry the huge daughter for around a minute. In hilarity, once he succeeded the test, he fell to the ground and the daughter fell on top of him. The second test was the bravery test. Gilligan had to prove he was able to stand still whilst the Chief threw blades at him. Gilligan of course withstood a few, and on the very last one, he started to faint as the Chief threw it, and it landed where Gilligan's head would have been.
As soon as his tests were complete, Hirokee, the daughter's old suitor came to challenge Gilligan to win the daughter's hand in marriage back. Gilligan didn't want to marry the daughter so this came as a joyous message, but the crew wanted him to marry her so he could go to the other island and see if they had radio or a trade port in which they could contact someone to rescue them. They had to throw spears at one another 10 paces apart. After hearing this news, they no longer wanted him to marry her, but there was nothing any of them could do about it.
Of course with this being Gilligan, he couldn't hit the broad side of a gigantic baboon, let alone a person 10 paces away. He managed to throw his spear in the tree about 10 feet up from Hirokee where the coconuts were growing. Hirokee laughed in triumph as he knew he has won. All he had to do was throw the spear and he would have a new wife. As he wound up to throw, the coconuts fell on Hirokee's noggin knocking him unconscious. The daughter then went into 'Nightingale Syndrome' and wanted to marry Hirokee thus leaving Gilligan and the cast in the clear as they no longer had to worry about Gilligan's untimely death and marriage.
The end.
