Okay, I bought a 6600Gt to replace my 4800SE

I took out my 4800 and put my 6600GT in. I turned my PC on, and my Monitor said 'No input detected'. I made sure it was in properlly tried again same thing happened. I took it out and put my old card in and my monitor still said it didnt detect it.

Help, Ive ruined Christams :(

Did you uninstall the old card's drivers?

Hmm.. Did you try connecting power to the 6600GT? I don't know if it needs it or not.. I am not sure.. Uhh. Don't worry it will be fixed soon. I promise.

No I didnt.

I connected power.

Im scared:(:(;(

Put old card back in

Boot

Remove drivers

Turn off computer

Remove old card

Insert new card

Clear CMOS

???

Profit.

When I put my old card in, Nothign shows on the monitor.

Clear CMOS then, and put new card in.

Does your motherboard have onboard video?

This happened when my motherboard died, was quite funny.

Well this is strange, my dad just pressed the button and the computer booted normally.

Peace has been restored. Im too scared to put the new GFX card in case I break it, I'll wait for a pro.

And comrade how would I clear CMOS if I cant see anything?

Clear CMOS is a jumper on the mothboard itself

Without being there it's hard for me to exactly gauge what's wrong...

.. I'm a bit rusty you see, I was a professional computer-repairy-man for a while :D

Or you can take out the battery on your motherboard for at least a minute and then put it back in.

4400se is an agp card.

6600 is a pci-e card

Your mobo does not support PCI-e

Get a new mobo or your card won't work.

its the grinch who stole Christmas :upstare: :P
on a more serious note, take the video card and computer to a shop...its better that way than frying something.

*sigh* you are an idiot for sure

If he did put the vid card in the PCI slot thinking it would work but his mobo didn;t support it then it would do exactly as he said.

Its an AGP card :/

My Old card no longer works properlly either.
I found out my power supply wasn't high enough for the card to work, but the old one shud still work, the man at the shop len't me another 4800 over Christmas so I can have fun, but thats not working now either, plus my computer has stopped making proper booting noises it no longer beeps, although sometimes it does. In short my computer is f****d booo hooo christmas is ruined :( :(

lol you have no life if you cant live without your computer

Well, my main present is the card - cant use it.

Maybe you should read the requirements for cards and how much power it takes next time...

My card (Which is now an N6600) needs power, I think yours does too.

Sorry for the thread hijacking but I need help also, mine is plugged in fine but it's issues with games. So far i've only tested HL2 and CSS, the framerate is fine and all but models have... Holes in them.

http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/1066/dedust00020ma.jpg

Here is an example of what I mean, any model has holes and random stringy lines coming out of them. I will soon test Black and White 2 and see if that gets the same problem. I uninstalled the old card's drivers (Even though they used the same ones) installed the ones that came with the card then updated.

HL2 worked fine yesterday but CSS still had the same problem. If it matters, the DirectX installation during my on-cd drivers setup basically installed in under a second :S It just flashed across the progress bar and it's done. I might try updating DirectX.

Thanks for the help.

Download DirectX 9.0c from MS site and install, if that doesn't work, back up all important files and format.

As soon as I clicked "Next" on the installation it said it was done straight away :|

GAAAAARR!!!! I ocasionally get those sort of hole in bf2, then the computer lags up, and about 10 mins later the game crashes. I was talking to a friend and he has exactly the same system as me, bar his graphics card, a 6600 GT. It runs fine for him, he also mentioned that when he upgraded from the 5700 (what i have) he had to upgrade his powersupply. Try that.

Nah, I fixed it now :D! I just removed the drivers a different way. Thanks for the advice though. Now back to helping Solaris!

Wow...you are pretty ignorant, way to troll from a whole page back too.

Solaris...that is the problem of having a POS power supply. Get a new one or your mobo may die completely. Your PSU most likely has un stable rails and that is like shutting your comp on and off really fast, so in time it will cause serious problems to your mobo or other parts of your comp.

If you can try to find out the rails and the max and average watts.

There is a sticker on the side of your PSU that will say this. Find out what the watts are and what the 3.3v, 5v, and 12v rails are at and post them.

THIS whole thing could have been AVOIDED if you read a little more, never rush into anything with computers.

..... shit like this makes me cringe... lol

PEACE

Mikey:hmph:
