So im taking a photoshop class this year so i thought id mess around a bit with it at home. Im still really new to the program, just learning the basics. I tried to put what i learned to use and shopped together this from Eve Online. Took 2 screenshots, one from the ship in the hangar, and one of the background space. Then i just patched everything to make the background clean, then i edited the ship around and then messed with highlights, color, light, transform and all of that shait, basically just what i have learned so far. Hope you like. :frog:

First try? I expected you to go apeshit with filters and generally overuse stuff, but this actually looks pretty neat. The ship does look a bit cut & pasted, but hey, you just started learning.

Keep up the good work :)

this actually looks pretty good, I don't think anyone would recognize that the ship is cut and pasted unless you tell them, original renders look pretty much the same. keep up the good work.

The "ONLINE" part should be a smaller font face and not just squashed, other then that it's pretty good. Did you really cut and paste that ship? Can't really tell with EVE Online's famous aliasing.

I believe you mean anti-aliasing.

Also it looks like he blurred the edges of the ship, so I could tell it was pasted in. Not a bad comp though, not at all.

Not too shabby. Photoshop is an immense beast to master, however there are a lot of very good online and free training sources available that are worth looking up.

on Itunes the following are all good free Podcasts:-

PhotoshopTV

Adobe creative suite podcasts (not always photoshop orientated, but occasionally)

The Russell brown show - He's a kook, but one of the guys who creates the program and he knows his PS shit backwards

Understanding adobe photoshop - Rich Harrington, very clear in what he teaches

Run by Corey Barker who is pretty genius at photoshop

As a side note, if your learning about photoshop, learn about using the built in Camera Raw Plugin as it's an excellent tool for carrying out non destructive image adjustments as well as removing colour casts from photos. Pretty much every photo that is taken outside of studio conditions contains a colour cast, and it is important to remove these before getting into actual photoshop work, as they significantly impact upon how your photoshop adjustments look, esp if you are intending to composite images together. Removing the colour cast and taking your images back to a neutral state makes this much easier and allows you to set your own casts (such as warming adjustment filters) later on.

Also if you've a decent digital camera, always shoot in the cameras native RAW format, never, ever shoot in Jpeg, it is the worst format to work in. It is only good for saving a flattened image to. You can convert your cameras native RAW format into Adobe DNG (goto adobe and find out more) which is a more robust option.

Oh and another thing WACOM tablet = essential. However as a pro user I can honestly say, unless you're absolutely intent on becoming a matte artist and have a 30"+ monitor or 2, then an A5 widescreen intuous is as big as you'll need. I have a large A4 at home and I hardly ever use the full extent of it tbh.

Good job. That's great work for a first try. As someone above said most newbies apply a bunch of filters and then pat themselves on the back.

Make an action to pat your self on the back. Then you can do it over and over really fast.

Also, can you make an image with a megathron, its the s3xh

Thanks for the links Kadayi.

I was actually going to get a megathron but then i changed my mind when i saw the tank abilities of the Hyperion. I could get a megathron but i wouldnt want to spend millions of isk just for a screenshot. If my hyperion gets blown up one day, il get a megathron. And im guessing that will be soon, cuz its currently stuck in a station far out in 0.0 systems, getting it out will probably result in uber fail.
