We've all been eagerly playing the demo which was released today, but I know many people are having issues connecting via the matchmaking system and problems finding dedicated servers.[br]Valve have introduced a server browser to make this process more manageable and user friendly while the creases are ironed out. You can access this by firstly enabling the developers console, which can be found in the options on the main menu > keyboard/mouse. Open the console (~) and type in "openserverbrowser" without quotation marks. This will bring up the server browser window. Unfortunately you can only join games with people already playing, and not empty ones. All the servers can be found under the 'custom' tab.[br]Valve are constantly updating and tweaking the demo over the coming days so the final release is, fingers crossed, a smooth one. I hope you get to play online with friends, it's terrific fun.

It's a shame they didn't just use a normal server browser in the first place, but nice to see they've got one out quickly.

Having so much fun with this game, just been playing for over an hour straight on impossible mode trying to beat the second half of the demo with the same 3 people. Was so much fun... We didnt win once! :D

I'm glad they included the option of both. The matchmaking's a nice feature, but it's really only better for people new to the whole system. People familiar with server browsers are going to find it more difficult because of the limited flexibility in the lobby system.

The thing is that the lobby system is actually better if it knew what it were doing, and if you could see vital information such as player location, ping, etc. If the matchmaking system grabbed the lowest ping dedicated server for you, then everything would be awesome, but since it doesn't, it's trying to find anything and comes out with shit. I hope they adjust it before the game is truly released.

Wheee!

After I heard this I tried setting up a dedicated server so I could play with my friends on a nice fast dedi... After starting the server client it filled up with 4 players in one. freaking. second. I guess there's a lot of players!

Neat, hope they fix the matchmaking by the real demo.

Matchmaking has been so worthless so far. I found one good game through that system so far. Not very good odds considering how many times I tried it.

The lobby system on the other hand I quite enjoy. At first, it kind of confused me and all, but after getting to know it a little better I feel that it suits Left 4 Dead perfectly. Also, I have only really been playing with my friends (blame matchmaking for that), so it was the perfect place to gather my friends and get a game going. And if luck was being extra kind to us, it would fail to find any dedicated servers and let me host it (my internet is pretty fast).

I only wish they had an option in the lobby system to ignore dedicated servers and just let me host a listen server. I would enjoy that.

I was lucky yesterday to play it 3 times. they just need to tweak the network lag and the server's. thats all, Solid game 10/10

hopefully come the 11th, the real demo will be good for me to play!

I wonder when they will notice that spanish keybord don't have a ~ key ...

Just buy another keyboard if you want the ~ that bad.

Anyway, can't wait for L4D-demo (Fingers-crossed that it will run on my computer)

It'd be a lot more useful if you could select options for your server, such as lock it altogether so a couple of you could play without random people joining. Particularly if you're hosting the server yourself.
