Anyone else watching this?

I've only seen a couple episodes, but I found it interesting.

I wonder if they are bringing it back for a 2nd season.

Considering how it ends, No.

Considering how it ends, Thankfully, No.

No I haven't seen it.

It will NEVER be as good as the original. End of.
Try watching the original, British version if you like Life On Mars. We have the sequel showing at the moment, Ashes to Ashes.

I heard how it ends. What balls.

I heard how it ends. What balls.

It was actually really well done in the UK version, wether or not it will be as well handled in the US I doubt. That's if they even decide to do the same as the UK one and don't just carry it on.

It was an entirely different ending between the two version stemot. The US ending sounds retarded.

On March 2, 2009, it was announced that ABC would not be ordering a second season. The cancellation decision came early enough to allow producers time to wrap up the show's storyline. The network aired all 17 episodes ordered, with the final episode airing April 1, 2009.

Doesn't sound like.

You know what, I'm going to have to download this to see it. After reading it on Wikipedia I have got to see if it really is as bad as it sounds.

Americans really do like destroying UKTV don't they, why can't they just watch ours?

EDIT:- Shit, sorry about the double post, thought I was editing my other one.

EDIT 2:- Dear god that was awful. The future set wobbled for god sake. Also Harvy as Gene? What a disaster.

I know a few Americans who followed the UK version, and are still following the current series of Ashes to Ashes, who love it. The UK versions are really superbly done, crazy how easy it is to screw up the formula.

Gene last week "quick word on police brutality....lots of it"

I'm really curious - is the UK version set in New York as well?

I really like the US version so far. I'm only seen a couple episodes, but I think it's seriously tight. Part of the reason I like it so much is because it's set in a different time. I get so tired of the latest detective shit in modern day new york.

I guess I'm used to bad endings after playing video games for so long. But I can understand that they would have to change the ending if they weren't going to continue the series.

NO SPOILERS PLEASE I AM STILL TO WATCH SERIES TWO OF UK LIFE ON MARS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE IT ON DVD YES YOU HEARD ME I AM FINANCIALLY INVESTED IN THIS MATTER I WILL SUE YOU FOR THE LOSS

I'm really curious - is the UK version set in New York as well?
No. It's set in Manchester. Surprise surprise, British TV tends to involve British characters in British locations. :p

I can't really bring myself to believe that the US version would be much cop without the good old Gene Genie, but who knows? It worked with The Office. Still, I'd recommend checking out the original if only because the plots about football hooliganism will make no sense and that will broaden your cultural knowledge.

Now you've done it. The ratings on the UK one are about 50% (ashes to ashes anyway) and the US version (Life On Mars) is 80%

And have you seen the US one? Because that's a claim that only someone who has seen both would know. Yes that's right, I'm calling you out here.

Because I'm watching it, and it's brilliant. I think you wouldn't like it because it's American! Death to America!

And lol Sulkdodds about football reference.

I'm annoyed that they canceled it. Stupid suits wouldn't know good if the story fell in their laps (what actually happened, figuratively speaking) and they just had to re-shoot it.

I've read what the ending in the US version is Virus. Hold your tongue.

Also Ashes to Ashes isn't the UK version, that's the sequel to the UK version.

Lol. Fair enough, but the journey of life doesn't end so sweet either.

If ratings '[are] 80%' why did it get cancelled (I'll tell you why. It's because they aren't and never were), and what sense of 'ratings' are you talking about anyway? Viewing figures? (OMG! I found out that this place called the United Kingdom is only this little island place with a loser population figure!) - which are basically irrelevant for the same reason that talking about the episode ratings assigned by TV Critics are (people have no taste, TV critics are just hacks).

Ashes to Ashes series 2 has been quite good so far. Still not up to the original series mind. Also, I had this week's twist figured out by about five minutes into the episode, so whoops.

edit: harshness aside, if I ever get the chance, I'd actually quite like to see the US show, because I gather it was a reasonably good show. I just won't be watching that final episode. Ugh...

Not even Harvey Keitel could save this show. :(

I'm really curious - is the UK version set in New York as well?
Haha!

Ok, I'd definitely recommend getting better sources.

Life on Mars (UK) version, was so good that they bought the format to take to US. You think a 50% rating would have justified them making a second version?

Also, the US version has been pulled after 1 series, and got 80%? Right...

The UK version had 2 series of Life on Mars before finishing (to finish on a high and not milk it). The team since has made a new series called Ashes to Ashes, set in the 80s (LoM was 70s). They are currently airing the 2nd season of it, and it links in with Life on Mars too. It's very very ****ing good!

Also, for a very British show, the fact Americans enjoyed it too and AJ Rimmer (a swede!) shows how well made it actually is. It rawks \o/

At their worst, Life on Mars US had as many American viewers as Life on Mars UK had British viewers. The US has five times the population of the UK.

lol, take it easy, I was just 'taking the piss'

% are via EZTV, and not a be-all-end-all - just one set of ratings. Other shows don't affect that rating, so obviously, people who rated it generally loved it.

I think it's boss. I would like to check out the UK version, but it's not available here, and I haven't seen it anywhere online. It's probably the same stories though for the most part of the season, but it would really be cool to see it in 1973 London as well!

By the way, being taken off the air doesn't have anything to do with how good something is, it only has to do with how successful it was.

Manchester is in the naaaaarf, and not in the saaaaaf.
(I think he's taking the piss)

Life on Mars is good enough to buy from amazon.co.uk...alternatively, you know, you could probably download it.

Hm, I was reading about it somewhere, and it said that it was in London. Either way, I would like to see it.

Ok, I just found out - I was reading about Ashes to Ashes when I read that it took place in London.

I've been thinking of watching the original show. Unfortunatly I already know the ending due to being really bored and watching "the 50 best tv endings" or something stupid on Sky. Just wiki'd the US ending. Sounds retarded.
