Just saw this at the haus, and I had to post it here.

The game features apparently stolen graphics that, according to news site GamePlasma, are identical to the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.[1] Further screenshots and video have suggested that environments and features have also been stolen from Diablo II, Painkiller, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Thief: Deadly Shadows, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Silent Hill 4, Crysis and scenes from the 1997 film Spawn and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

This has to be fake. Or a viral campaign. Or something. How the **** do you steal so much content from other popular games and expect nobody to recognize it? And one of the developers was apparently masquerading around on forums as multiple fans to drum up interest. And those trailers... Oh God.

It's like they want to be destroyed.

What would they gain from being exposed as thieving hacks?

Attention. Hell, we're talking about it right now!

I probably wouldn't have heard of the game if they hadn't been accused of theft.

Why else would they bother making such a blatant fraud?

Get thrown in jail forever, thus avoiding legal fines from the companies and their banks (they probably have mortgages high as the eiffel tower :p)

I firmly believe the more probable explanation is that they're just idiots.

What the hell @ the trailers?
Was this made in 1995 or something?

Being a huge adventure game fan, I have been following this one for quite some time and yes, it is AMAZING what they have done. Makes me want a new Thief or the official Dark Mod now!!

Idiots who have probably got the highest ratio of Attention/Rating in gaming history.

There is such a thing as bad press IMO. It's not like these guys are going to secure themselves household name recognition. I don't see any conceivable profit to reap in this situation. And it's not like this is going to make people buy the game.

this or

What if the guys who made Limbo are a team consisting of several devs from one of the developers they supposedly stole from, who are trying to get a massive cross-corp lawsuit to reap non-existing debt money from a dummy smalltime developer and simultaneously force competition to waste resources on intellectual property suits and lawyers while at the same time diverting the gaming press with the task of discovering what was stolen from who. It could happen.

/tinfoil hat off

Was this... was this made in ****ing Garry's Mod? Jesus... just wow.

Been following this for a few days, its very amusing.

I still think there a big developer joke.

Heh, I like the ending of that video - you can clearly see "www.fraps.com" for about a second at the "Coming soon to a PC near you !" part.

Bad press is better than no press. I might buy this game (provided it's cheap enough) just to laugh at it :p

I can't access either the forums or Gameplasma...and those screenshots don't really show me anything obvious. Can someone fill me in on the details please?

Bad press is better than no press.

What's there to gain from getting sued into oblivion? If all they wanted was attention, there are better ways they could have done it. Preferably a strategy that doesn't involve putting you in a legal confrontation against giants.

Bad press is bad IMO. While there are certainly cases where it's good for brand recognition and generating buzz, this doesn't strike me as one. I don't see the payoff down the line. Especially for a game that's supposed to have been in development for over ten years.

That novelty is the sole thing they can bank on, aside from maybe desperate adventure game fans. For every person who buys it as a joke, I'd wager that ten more will simply recognize it as "that thieving game", have a chuckle, and then mosey on over to the 360 section of the store. Not a lot of people are going to spend 30 dollars on something they think is crap, especially when they can get the gist of the product in a two-minute gametrailers video.

The only demographic this game looks like it was going to penetrate was that of elderly senior citizens cluelessly looking for something to buy their gaming grandchild. Not exactly the kind of people who follow this kind of news, and therefore mostly unaffected by this "stunt" if that's indeed what it is.

Heh, I never thought somebody would be stupid enough to copy "generic fantasy adventure #45913" AKA Oldblivion verbatim.

It's a modern-day Rom Check Fail and the trailer whispers 'SSSSEANCE' in a sinister voice when you perform a seance.

This is the most incredible thing ever.
