In the gameplay vids I have watched I have noticed that in order to get certain weapons you have to drop your current (trap town Gordon drops SMG and picks up shotgun). Does anyone know if you will only be able to carry a set amount of weapons?

I'm sure it's been said that there is a limit to the number of weapons you can carry at a time. Bokitch or Newell or someone said they had tried a number of inventory systems in HL2 before they found one that felt good... or something like that.

i seem to remeber some one saying in one of the interviews that it was going to be the same as origanal HL. i hope there will not be a limit coz thats teh suck

I seem to remember that when asked this question, they said they were undecided as to whether it would be limited, or HL1 style.

I'm pretty sure they said that, during the time in which they recorded the videos, they were fiddling with the inventory, and they've changed it from what it was then. I think it's in the info thread.

I'm pretty sure they said you wouldn't have to bother with inventory management in HL2.

I'm pretty sure no-one's really sure what the heck is going on...

I'm pretty sure everyone should stop saying "I'm pretty sure".
:p

Meh.

it would be cool if they use vgui menu as a Diablo inventori :p

Are you talking about the application of certian weapons and armour?

Weapons yes, armour I doubt. Gordon's HEV is a kind of signature...

Speaking of which do you think there will be any changes to his suit? Nightvision, thermal, etc.

There's a spankin' new suit zoom, as seen in the E3 vids, though that could just be a demo-playback camera function. There's a flashlight... uhh... :stare:
It's probably upgraded though, like the Master Chief's shiny new Mk-V armor.

Dont worry about the flashlight man... thats in a video of the softimage|xsi

i bet that flashlight looks pretty damn cool

What if you could change the weapons setting in the options window. i.e. a box that says, "tick to have limited weapons". off course this wouldn't apply to special weapons such as the manipulator and crowbar. but this idea would satisfy both people who can only have 2 or 3 weapons at a time, or use the original HL1 method.

Yeah or maybe even have it change with the difficulty setting?

That might be cool. It seems like when the difficulty increases they limit ammo more and more. So even if you have all the guns, you won't have that much ammo for all the guns. Limits the inventory and gun use that way.

I like the concept of limiting weapons. It makes you choose guns and then you can play through again then realise how cool a different weapon is. Either way, I don't care. It's more realistic to not carry a zillion weapons around. I would be happy, if they only let you carry a weapon in each class, rifles , pistols, melee. etc.

According to the laws of the modified Havoc 2 physics, will we be able to knock somebody out by chucking are weapons at them.

well... 2 things to say to that...

1) If there is an ability to "throw" weapons
2) If they script knocking out into source

then yes that would be the case

the limits of weapon is something more realistic
(cuz you cant hav a RPG and a rifle, shotgun, submachine gun, crowbar and all that lot of weapons)
and that give to us the chance to use all the weapons of the game
for example in HL1 are weapons that I don use so much, cuz I always use the best

inmy opinion the weapon inventory will be like this
you can use 1 weapon of every tipe
meele
handguns, or weapon of 1 hand
principal weapon, or weapon of 2 hands
especial weapon, like the manipulator(or maybe to hav 1 unique weapon)
throwable weapon,grenades,pheromones grenades

If they wanted to make sense, you could hold: AR, RPG, SMG, a pistol or two and some grenades. I think that would be all the room you could have, and I don't think weight matters because of the HEV suit, or does the suit just protect you from...stuff...not fire or water or radiation or electricity though...

is a good theory
a another thing, the weapon class are six,I dont pay much attention cuz in the interface of the weapons class the 5 dont appear

EDIT: I am a scaner now, I a not much happy, cuz the zombie can atack, I just heard that scaners just fly over there

But scanners fly, and they aren't dumb like zombies.

a well if is true
I like be a scaner!
I am a litle flying video camara whit a gun!

I hope that's how they implement it, if they do at all. I want to hurl my guns at stuff for fun, but not permanently.

Maybe it'll be part of the difficulty modes? Perhaps "Easy" (or its equivalent) will allow the original-HL style dimension warping pockets, while other modes limit your inventory to perhaps one or two per slot...

If there is a choice, chances are you can only change it at the very start of the game, just before your sent tumbling into the Hazard Course's latest incarnation.
Ooh... just got a buzz then. And here was me thinking HL2 didn't do it for me anymore.

Some things bother me about the above quote. Surely this would effect gameplay and map layout dramatically... If you think about it, depending on what you can/cannot do will effect how a map is constructed. Like JK2, in earlier levels you dont have the power to jump that high, and the levels are adjusted accordingly. If you have more weapons surely there would be stronger/more enemies.

I wonder if the delay was due to level incompletion? Sorry to post here, just a few things been rattling in my head.

I think id true about that of "fulling the inventory" cuz in a video when the weapons interface appear in the slot 1 hav a handgun, and is supossed that slot is were are the meele weapons(cuz in HL1 is like that)

Given source's effectly limitless capabilities how bout the weapons u pick up appear hanging on or in hosters on your HEV suit so that when u move they clink together if there is a lot.Now i dont think it would slow u down though as the HEV suit would probly have compensaters so you'd be able to lift heavier loads.

The same with the Combine so that a well placed shot might hit a gren dangleing off their Combat webing and bang,oh that would be cool.

I wouldn't mind if HL2 had an inventory system like Far Cry. FC's inventory works quite well. As for a VGUI inventory, Chrome had a pretty good system for inventory...

I'd actually like to see a slot system for the weapons inventory. Just like The Specialists inventory, you have a set number of slots and each weapon takes up a different a different number of slots...

I would rather prefer seeing them use a weight system vs. a number of objects held system.

I think assigning weapons, ammo, rations ect all a specific wt. adds more realism to the game and then assigning the main character like a max of 100 pounds he could then make his own choices as to what he carries around with him.

And also building a decent amount of space like a backpack is important to, this game will be used for mods as well so i hope they think of everyone's general needs and not just the tital game. Usually alot of mods fall closly under how the devs designed the game but im sure a few ppl can adjust there own.

Well, a lot of the videos were apparently from quite a while ago. Sometime in 2002, I believe.

Be nice if the HEV recharged itself. I like inventory management, done brilliantly as it is in Halo and Fire Warrior. In HL2 I'd like to see it but to a lesser extent, maybe more like Vice City.

Limiting the weapons would make the game that much more imersive imho. I hope they keep it in. The way I see it, you could have one pistol (holstered at the hip), one melee (crowbar, hanging from thr other hip), and two rifle sized weapons on your back (like the manipulator and a RPG). It's nice to have unlimited space, but gamers today are demanding more realism in their games. PlanetSide does it well (although the game itself is pretty dire unfortunately), with your weapon space restrticted by the armour type you have. Multiplayer possibilites perhaps?
