Line in question

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop, with the input jack for a microphone/line in. Is there any way I can use this to have something else play directly through the speakers? In other words, could I run a mini-guitar amplifier through my laptop speakers using a two-sided headphone cable, running from the amp into the computer? Is there a special program I need to do this?

Depends on your audio device/drivers for how to enable it, but you should be able to have the sound going into your line in be played through.

When I plug it in, it gives me the option of identifying the input as a microphone or as line in. Neither one does much of anything. I think the audio device is SigmaTel, BTW.
