Linux hacked

Is this the first time its been hacked ?

Isn't it amazing the way something can be said on the internet by nobody in particular and it is accepted as fact. Linux fanboys love to tlak how Linux is so secure and Windows is crap. Here you have someone who bought into the fandom and believe the inference that Linux was magically secure. Any OS can be hacked and has been.

My calculator's operating system has yet to be hacked from an outside source! SO HAH

Isnt open source uber dangerous, Im suprised its not being hacked hourly.

man people are misinformed. linux can be hacked like any other OS.

and no, open source isnt dangerous, its not like my linux is downloading other peoples stuff constantly to upgrade. open source is projects that get submitted to distrobutions and are integrated into the OS, except unlike windows, which gets creative input from a select pool of individuals, open source is around the world, and many thousands of times more people contribute, so only the best of the best are actually used.

...and linux is a lot more secure than windows.

I still have faith in Linux. Microsoft needs to stop making software and discover that they only have one successful area of expertice: Marketing.Yeah...

HAHA, I love Linux lovers - theyre so narrowminded.

Theres more to Microsofts success than marketing. The bad point about having your software on everyones PC? If you can create a good hack then you can spread it easily because every other numbnut out there is going to be using the same software.

Linux is all about stability and security, Microsoft is all about newbie friendly, ease of use, compatable, etc and Apple is all about .. one button mice.

haha. I wonder why they just use one button on mac mice.. Is it because they don't want to look like copycats?
And it is unpractical as hell. I always try to right click stuff on macs(well, before when i used them anyway)..

Macs are overpriced and highly overrated. Because our bosses love to waste money on pricy toys instead of decent printers our office is full of the single mouse button buggers. They could of just as easily splashed out and bought us all top of the range alienware boxes (my suggestion), that way we could of at least had some lunch time death matches. The only half decent thing about apple is Itunes.

or you could just buy a 2 button mouse. installation is easy. unplug old mouse. plug new mouse in.

people who bash on linux, like azz0r, who claim linux users are narrow minded is probably set off form linux because they couldent get past the install, or are too damn dumb to use it in the first place.

Sure.....thats the reason......i'm just going to call my friends, they'll pick you up in a second

I prefer windows to linux, whats the point in being a rebel against windows when it does everything you want simply? And runs gamesssss

I enjoys windows holding my hand, I use a computer to get things done effeciently. As for Linux - why would I want to waste my time doing everything for myself? Enjoy your 'open ended, controllable os' that really is only good for servers.

I have to use linux every day at uni...

It's bloody paradise to come home and be able to use my windows system (though it does dual boot just in case i need it for some things).

They both have their advantages, and although it's buggy as hell, there IS a reason why windows is so much more popuar.

Yeah, I do prefer my Windows box.
I lose enough time to my computer, I certainly dont need to throw Linux into the mix. I'm also a game junkie, so nothing else is going to do.

When Bill Gates started Microsoft he saw the need to defame the competition, so he created a plan to structure up a Computer Special Force. That plan was laying in his safe for many years. There was no need for it, until later. When freeware software was beginning to show its force he took the plans out of the safe and created the SS - S. Special System Services.

The SS - S is a special force designed to defame the competition, but mainly the freeware competition. They are ghost forces that has no official ties to Microsoft or Bill Gates. But they get their instructions from him on carefully planned and secret meetings and briefings once a year.
On these meetings they brief the supreme commander and dictator, Bill Gates on the last years happenings, successes and failures. They are here devising plans for next year, and next years targets. These secret summits take place over the course of two weeks.

This is the workings of the SS - S.

umm..old news. the mirror servers of the debian project were hacked. happens everyday, no matter whether the serer is running linux or windows.

For the same reason Macs are safer than Windows, and Sun is safer than WIndows, and AIX is safer than Windows and OpenVMS is sfer than WIndows...

More average people use Windows than all other OS's combined. When Linux is in every home and 6 year olds and grandmas both use it as easily as they use windows then it too will become insecure. Security is inversely proprotional to ease of use. In order to make something secure you make it more dificult to use. One of the things stopping people from exploiting Linux is that installing the OS was a hassle. Why bother learning all that when you can get some nice gui apps to help you hack at Windows instead. Windows can be locked up quite tightly, but it requires knowing what you are doing. Linux is the same. I could install every module in existance in Linux and get a machine that is running every service known to man..all unpatched... and run them as root. Is that Linux secure now? If Linux does becomes everyman-popular it will likely compromise security for ease of use.

but known bugs in linux or it's programs are patched within days, until they became public, at least the popular prorams get patches that fast.

the IE still has 30+ known bugs but microsoft hasn't released a patch for them for weeks/months. and there are new bugs discovered every day. linux get patches much faster. the ppl who discover the bug can have a look into the source (assuming they want to help the developers) and patch the thing on their own. when it's done they submit the patch to the developer and everything is fine. so there might be like 3 patches written at the same time for a linux app, while ms still is looking through their code in order to fix the first bug, while the next 2-3 bugs are already "waiting".

also today linux ain't that hard to install. e.g. suse. out the dvd in, chosse the software package you wan't to install, install it and it works, like windows, with all necessary drivers pre installed.

but i don't see the point why ppl bash any of these os's. linux is great for servers and for workstations, while windows is (still?) great for gaming and for the standard home user, who just want's to write a doc or sell something via ebay. a mono os cultur is as bad as a mono culture (?) in nature. one bug, or virus (os and nature) can take out the whole os (plant) within a short time and only few "survive".

if ppl use different os's one single virus doesn't have the chance to take every pc /plant down. imagine, all routers, servers and so on in the internet were running xp and the blaster worm came out. the internet would be dead and no one had a chance to dl the patch for a few days. the blaster worm still is going around cuz many ppl haven't patched their systems yet. (dumb asses ... the worm is out for like 3 months now).
sure the same "might" happen with linux, but then at least the windows systems wre safe and running.

i prefer linux because 1) its easier to program on 2) it makes a better server for gaming 3) i dont feel as stupid as with windows 4) i have complete control over everything. there is no adware on my box 5) its reliable and i know that i can be gaming, chatting, graphics editing, modeling, anything and i know that i wont be crashing 6) its got superior networking (which i do take advantage of, for pc and xbox's). and 7) its faster than windows, and uses hardware more efficiently. its like windows without the bloat.

it all comes down to personal taste. i dont like windows because its gay. you may like it, i do not. besides id much rather pay nothing for something superior to proprietory products.

oh, and you can play games on linux. i regularly play ut2k3 and hl on it, with fantastic framerates. i guess youve never heard of WINE or Win2Lin.

people dont use linux because people think its difficult. its much more intuitive than windows (plus it looks better ;)) gotta love full antialiasing on everything. or maybe other people dont

people will neeevvveeer learn.

It's you who is narrow minded, if you have the patients linux can be very rewarding. Also my IC has stopped working in windows but seems OK in LInux which is very odd, might have something to so with that addware I accidentally installed :dozey:

Linux is very hard to set up and get working but even my little brother can play music, surf the internet and write documents. If i was a network admin for a buisness I may depending on the circumstances choose Linux over windows because it would be so hard for any of the employes to change anything, yet it would take very little brain power for them to get into there email or something like that. I could just customize the desktop so the only things on it were the apps they needed a link to there home directory and log in/out, there wouldn't even be a need for a start menu.

Unfortuneately I still havn't got the ATi module to load yet ;( but everything else works.
