I will love you forever.

The latest releases of Mandrake, Knoppix and Suse have great hardware support, although the main reason people don't actually use linux is the poor game support (and most people on this forum likes games, right?)

I'm using WinXP Pro on all 5 machines in my house.

True.

Heck if valve would port HL2 over to the mac (unix) I would be using a mac right now instead of a dell with win xp.

I use solaris/linux/xp at school, and xp and linux at home.

I used Mandrake 10 for two months and I now have Fedora Core 3. I must say that i'm really impressed! It's alot more stabe and easy to use. The installation is simple and allows you to install many many programs so you don't have to install 843765 RPMs when you want to install another program, the required libs are included on the CDs. It's fast, up to date, it includes an update program similar to Windows Update.

And the best of all, I can run any game I want!! I use the latest version of Cedega for the games and Crossover Office 4 to emulate Windows applications. The performances are really good considering I have a Geforce4 and Nvidia has a great support for linux users (their drivers are really good). When I want to run a game, I use WindowMaker (because its light), and I run a script I made for each game wich start the game with renice 17, this way I get the best fps I could get. :) When I want to surf the Web or program web pages (with Zend Studio) I use KDE. I can also play every kind of movie even .wmv (windows movies). Xine + Kaffeine + windows codecs + Quicktime running with CxOffice. I can also run IE with CxOffice so I can see Web Pages that use ActiveX controls.

I use Windows. And I'll soon have my Linux+ certifications for my upcomming network admin job.

hey what are your specs?
does FC3 work on the Asus P4P800E Deluxe, cuz FC2 doesnt ;(
if it does, il give linux another bash, i really want to :)
/me thinks about getting another hard drive and looks out some CDRs

I don't know why it wouldn't work on a Asus P4P800E Deluxe, what do you mean by that? You can't install Fedora? I'm 99.9% certain it will work with Fedora 3, the kernel is up to date and everything is running great on my comp.

well, im gettin more optimistic feelings about it. with FC2 the installer wouldnt run, worked on the ancient dell though. i posted in some linux forum and people there said FC2 wouldnt work on my mobo unfortunately.

/me goes to http://www.linuxiso.org/ and looks for fedora core 3

know any links to get it off the torrent?

im downloading Fedora Core 3 Heidelberg DVD i386 of the bit torrent. im getting an impressive 67kb/sec peak.
oooooo im so excited :p

I downloaded Fedora Core 3 Heidelberg 4CDs on bittorrent using Shareaza and I was downloading at 350KB/sec. It took me only the evening to download 4 CDs.

Edit: Oh and the torrent link: http://torrent.dulug.duke.edu/

I am a Gentoo guy. I am going to try out Solaris 10 (Thanks Tr0n) but i also use windows 64x (1289 build)

yep that sounds very famliiar where i got my torrent from
this might actually be the very first time im usin file sharing legally :p

how on earth did you manage 350kb/sec, as i mentioned earlier 67kb/sec was the peak

oh SHIT! 93kb/sec, just looked just now damn im impressed

im behind a router and the modem got NAT or something, wonder if that slows anything down.

guys be ready if i need help gettin the LAN workin, as well assound, cuz il be postin here :D

I had no problem configuring my two computers at home. The one that shares the connection is on Mandrake 10.1 I just run the net sharing wizard and my computer was connected to the Internet. And yes furiousV, routers and firewall can drop download speed, it's because you connection can't accept as many users, some are blocked, but you can configure you peer-to-peer software to block less stuff (I use shareaza and it works very well).

nearly done, 96.5% but its only coming in at 58k/sec right now. eta 30mins. im going to work soon. but when im back! YEAH! oh wait, a DVD burner. shit. o my dads got one. a DVD-R. DAMN! oh il buy one from my work ;) as for my router, im on the DMZ
