Just be sure that you select only what you need. Check out Damn Small Linux: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ It will probably be pretty important for you to pick a light window manager. KDE and Gnome don't exactly fall under that description, but they should still work. Blackbox: http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net/ The Fast Light Window Manager: http://flwm.sourceforge.net/ The Small Window Manager: http://www.small-window-manager.de/ etc. Look around.
