A little bit, although it lacks the felt tip pen look of Yoshi's Island. Perhaps more Viva Pinata. In HD it looks really crisp and lovely.
I'm going to try and recreate Hell, 'worms' stylee. Flaming seas and pitchforks.
The 'game' part turns me off honestly.
It looks fun enough - more of a sandbox platformer. You never know, it could be awesome as a platformer. There's plenty of scope for physics puzzels and traps and we haven't seen the enemy types yet or whether we can tailor them.
The first time I saw that I knew this game would be awesome. 4 player co-op, making your own levels, and the little guys lip sync when you chat over comms You can drop bad guys into levels and add your own textures and pictures - it's going to be ****ing great.
Did your magic 8-ball tell you that?
How long do you think it's going to take to make a decent game level in LBP in reality? You think you're going to magically create perfectly usable game levels in a matter of a few minutes, a few hours or a few days? Consider how long the developers probably take, and then consider the fact that they're not doing it in the spare time, then do the math in terms of hours. Sure some people will get into it, but the majority of people aren't going to have the time to pull off anything truly innovative and aren't going to want to invest their time in it long term.
It's a great looking game, but the concept is packaged to deceive.
Level creation is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to this game. Regardless of how long it will take, there looks to be so many possibilities. How, exactly, are you so sure that many people aren't going to make maps? If it's easy enough to do, I'm sure plenty of people with give it a go at least once. Above all, the whole point of the game is to have fun, whether it's playing alone or with others. Is it really that hard of a concept to understand?
I'm all for content creation. Sandbox is great, but it should always be the supplement rather than the main course, because it does rely heavily upon user input. Consider the Sims 2 community which has more active members than LBP is ever likely to have, but 99.9% of what gets uploaded to the Sims 2 website is utter crap in truth. Yes there are a few people making some high quality work worth downloading, but they are few and far between, and are pretty dedicated. The same can be said of the Movies, great game, but again 99.9% of the movies people upload are utter crap. Just because someone gives you a tool set doesn't make you a good designer by default (a common mistake people seem to make a lot). Sorry if I'm pissing in your ear here lads, I know your all moist for LBP, but a month after purchase it will be gathering dust on most peoples shelves.
You're comparing the Sims 2 fanbase to LBP's? That's a flaw in your argument right there. The Sims appeals largely to the female population, and mostly casual gamers. LBP appeals to pretty much anyone looking for a unique and fun experience, whether it be the hardcore gamer or the someone who rarely plays games. Both games are completely different regardless, and there are probably a lot of details with LBP that we don't know about yet. No one knows to much ready-made content there will be upon release. You're making it sound like the game will consist only of user made levels.
LBP doesn't even have a player base yet, but I'm not seeing that it's going to be any different in terms of output in comparison to the sandbox games that have proceeded it, simply because 'Girls are only good for making babies & stuff, not gaming'. Sims 2 is anything but a casual game, and neither is it's frankly enormous modding community. I think a big part of LBP games critical success will depend greatly upon the amount of ready-made content the developers put into the game. If it has some kind of SP or Co-op game mode in there & the sandbox is a supplement, then it's all good, but if it is just a few levels and a sandbox...not so good.
What I'm really trying to get at is how you seem to be predicting that LBP is going to fail. The fact is, no one has any real idea of how this game will fare when it gets released. There could be a lot of information that it's developers haven't given us yet. So, instead of telling people that the game is not going to be as good as it looks (which is a complete guess on your part), just let them decide for themselves once we know more about it.
