I was sceptical after seeing the tgs trailer - which made it look like a game for retarded kids - but Edge have just gushed all over it this month, spouting words like 'original', 'unique', and all the other stuff they like (9/10 btw). It looks like a rpg crossed with Pikmin. You run about a vast world with your followers in tow. Throw someone at a bad guy/monster and they'll fight, throw them at a rock and they'll mine. Different classes are suited to different tasks - soldiers best at fighting - but all can fight/mine/farm etc to different degrees of success. You have to expand your kingdom, build, fight, thwart other kings, and explore. Being a sucker for anything that's unique in this hobby - quite rare these days - i'll be checking this out. It's made by a 'dream team' of rpg designers too, so can't be all bad ;)

Yeah, I thought it was too kiddie at first too, but I read something about this in some magazine last weekend and I was pretty impressed as well. Love all the colors too. :) Doesn't hurt that I loved games like Herdy Gerdy and The Last Guy too.

EDIT: Interesting music in the vid--Tchaikovsky and Mozart were prominent. Guess the public domain helps for these smaller games. No complaints here.

I can tell by all the responses you guys are chomping at the bit to find out about this game :p (thanks for the sympathy post, Victim)

It's out this friday and i'm pretty excited. Little King's Story is meant to be a very long and epic - something we haven't had in a while.

So, 5 hours of last night were spent being a Little King, and it was great. It's quite hard to sum up the experience - it's like a wonderfully charming and funny cross of The Settlers, Pikmin, Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon. It controls, looks and sounds lovely. The biggest surprise, however, has been the high production values and obvious design quality. Little King's Story could be a first party Nintendo game.

I appreciate that some people will be put off by the childlike visuals, but don't let them fool you into thinking this isn't an involved and epic game, because it is (and anyways - the best experiences in video games generally are childlike ;)). If you have a Wii and your repertoire of gaming interest expands beyond blowing shit up, you should check this out.

My lonely plugging of this game continues.

Edge review

I know there's a few Wii owners on this forum - where are you?! Littls King's Story comfortably sits alongside Mario Galaxy and Lost Winds. It's also epic - 30-40 hours to finish. Go, buy, discuss ...

I'll certainly check this out, considering how much I loved Pikmin. Seems uncannily like it here and there.

Woh, a reply :)

If you like Pikmin I think this will be right up your street. It doesn't have quite the same, constant, 'how do I get there' puzzle feeling, and has a much lazier pace and atmosphere, but the similarities are there. What's different - other than the rpg/expansion/building elements - is the scope of the game and the size of the world - it's huge. The Daily Telegraph summed it up well in a positive review (Click me):

'Make no mistake, that candy-coated exterior masks a tough game of epic grandeur. Several hours in, you realise that everything you had been doing -expanding your kingdom and training your citizens- had just been practice. The world map opens up to reveal a gigantic expanse stretching out from your serene little settlement; craggy mountains and deep valleys beyond your borders. And it’s all for the conquering.'

To be honest, awesome. What I hated about Pikmin, and what made Pikmin 2 such a better game, was the time limit imposed. Even having to get my Pikmin back to the ship before night time stressed me out in number 2 :P

I couldn't agree more.

I did love pikmin, so I'd probably like this too.

I misread this title as "The Little Cow King's Story", thanks to the above poster.

Now? I want a Little Cow King.

There is a tiny Royal Cow called Poncho that lives in your palace

Looks good... might actually get me to play my Wii for the first time in over a year once it's released here in a couple months.

I don't know why I wasn't paying any attention to this. This sounds great!

As the title says, Banimal, it's on wii.

Constantly breathing green air-stuff blinds the vision.

How do you even read titles spinning like that?!
