Loading Time

Is there anything I could do to try and improve loading time?

I'm on an athlon 2800+ (2.1 processor) on an Abit motherboard. Is there anything I could tweak in HL2 settings or elsewhere to improve the loading times? I'm waiting five minutes between each level these days, such is why I thirst for improvement.

How much RAM do you have? I'm not saying that there isn't any alternatives, but my freind lent me his 1gb of RAM and load times were REALLY short compared to how I get them with 512. Only took about 30-40 seconds.

hmm, well i have 512 pc300 ram. I've been planning on getting another stick at some point when I get the money, but i didn't know if that would really affect the time or not.

I had 512mb RAM when I installed HL2 and my loading times where long also, but yesterday I bought another 512, and it now takes about 15-20 secs to load each level. Oh and just for the record, having 1gb of RAM compleatly removed the stutter, for me anyways.

Same here, 1gb eliminated 98% of my stutter, and load times do go a lot quicker. I think the rest of my stutter comes from my lame processor.

very very true. I first played HL2 on my laptop with 256MB Ram, and I can assure you it was a nightmare (3 minute loading times?). On my 1GB PC the load times are cut to 30 seconds. I have a little stutter, but much less than before, probably because of my "Integrated sound-card".
