One of my favorite local bands here is the Envy Corps. Their first album sounded a lot like radiohead and coldplay. Their new songs sound even better. I've been listening to them quite regularly since they are on the radio here a bit. I know 2 of the guys in the band so it's easy to get free tickets for their shows which is awesome. ;)

So do you have any good local bands that you like? Do you listen to them a lot or do you listen to more popular stuff?

There's an awesome local band from my old home called Magistral. They are power metal and hardly known at all, but man, they are some of the most talented musicians I've ever heard. You may not be into power metal, but their stuff is still worth a listen. It's by no means 'screaming' or any other false trait you might hear about metal.

The only bands I know that are local are into emo-pop...

so yeah I prefer to listen to other stuff :P

There is no local scene where I'm from. It died when all the venues got closed down for various reasons....

The closest I know in terms of local bands are Amplifier and Oceansize.

Both bands create all sorts of proggy awesomeness. :D

Dude, Manchester has the best Ska-Punk scene in the UK. I could name dozens of amazing bands right on your doorstep.

Corrision of Conformity is sort of "local-ish" even though I think they're sort of nationally known. My friend's sister dated the guitarist, too \m/

Too bad I'm not into ska-punk. :P

then wtf do you listen to?

Anyway, I'm in CA bay area, so there are tons of great local bands (and just as many crappy ones) like Rancid and Operation Ivy (which are pretty much the same band, but whatever).

I know one person out of all the people I know who likes Ska :\

The Todies are from my hometown. That's the only famous local band I know of.

Sorry, I didn't post the link to The Envy Corps.
They just performed at a Taste of Des Moines event downtown the other night. Was pretty good and lasted 2hours.
