Well, I get to a screen right after it shows the guy with the turny lever in his eye and then some copyright stuff. The screen says "Loading..." in a block rounded rectangle in the bottom right corner and the image is very fuzzy. I can't even make out what it is. But it just freezes there. I thought maybe it just took a while becuase of how "advanced" the game is but I walked away for half an hour and it was still stuck there.....

Help? Thanks in advance. :(

EDIT: My computer is good on all the requirements.

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+, ~2.0GHz
RAM: 256 MB
OS: Windows XP Prof.
Hard Drive: > 20 GB of Free Space
Graphics Card: Radeon 9200

1. 256mb of Ram isn't enough for windows XP alone.
2. A Radeon 9200 isn't suffice for Hl2.
3. Turny Lever? You mean a Valve ie the people that made the game.

I think your machine is trying to load the 3d background map for the menu. The fuzzy image I think your seeing is displayed whilst the 3d background is loading, and is merley a screenshot of said 3d background with a simple filter run on it.

WTF.
Minimum System Requirements:
1.2 GHz Processor(Check) * 256MB RAM(Check) * DirectX 7 Level Graphics Card(Check) * Windows 2000/XP/Me/98(Check) * 4.5 GB of available Hard Drive Space(Check) * Mouse(Check) * Keyboard(Check) * Internet connection required(Check)

So WTF? I thought Radeon 9200 was a very good graphics card? How can 256MB not be enough when it meets the requirements?

Yes those are the minimum requirments. I highly recomend 512mb of ram before attempting to play Hl2. That is 512mb DDR pc 2700 or above.

The Radeon 9200 is considered a budget card compared to today's top of the line cards. I'm running a 9600 pro which is significantly faster than the 9200.

Your processor to a lesser extent it fine. I'd still go for an Athlon 2800 or above.

But the game should still at least run, wether it lags or whatever. :(

Ofcourse theres allways the matter of how you mantain your system. Alas I don't dare tread there.

Lol you're mistaken, the 9200 is a very poor card. Who told you it was a good card?

My computer is virtually brand new. I'll bet my life maintanance isn't the problem.

I mean Spyware, Viruses, Malware, trojans etc.

If it's brand new how much did you pay for it all then? You may have payed too much.

The first time it has ever had internet access hooked up to it was about 4 hours ago. I updated everything, drivers and whatnot, and installed HL2, steam and all that happy jazz.

And I paid $700

Are you shure that HL2 is fully downloaded? When i downloaded HL2 it said that it's ready to play but it made that same thing. Look into Steam Monitor Window.

I've got a 3.06 Ghz Pentium 4 Hyperthreading (2 CPU's in one, one virtual CPU and one real one) , 512 MB DDR RAM FSB 400 Mhz (Running at 800 Mhz because of Hyperthreading) , an ATI Radeon 9800 XT 128 MB, 160 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM and it STILL lags at high quality textures and shaders with no AA on.
