LOG IN STUCK!! please help...must...play...half life 2...

After about 3 months, I felt like playing HL2, so I clicked on Steam, but it keeps getting stuck on the login page after I click continue.
I've tried: deleting the .lld and .blob files, rebooting the computer (twice), re-installing Steam, and deleting AVG (virus detecting software). But none of these work!!
WHAT TO DO?
I gotta play it so bad.......! HELP!:x

Where's it getting stuck at? Is it updating itself? Is it logging you in? Make sure none of your firewalls are blocking Steam from connecting to the net.

it updates to 100%, but when i type in my username & password and click Continue, it gets stuck right there. i've waited for like an half an hour but it donte do anything
it worked just fine on the same computer a few monthes ago, so it shouldn't be a firewall problem. but i want to try. how do you unblock the thing from firewall?
