I just bought a z-5500 logitech speaker set. Ive tried both optical and coax digital inputs. Before I had a Z-5300 set using analog and the 5.1 would work perfectly. Ya know if someone is talking behind ya you hear it in the back speakers only.

Well now im using the logitech z-5500 using coax digital and it is just decoding the sound as stereo. Unless I force it to do Pro Logic but then its not perfect 5.1 like it is when using analog.

My audigy 2 is set to bypass to spdif, im using digital out, and half life is set to 5.1 along with my pc being set to 5.1.

What am I missing? Any help would be apprecaited.

Everything else is fine, such as movies, or ac3, dts tracks..

Make sure snd_digital_surround is enabled in the console. It's different to the command you activate through the normal menus so check it out.

I found that out and tried it and it still didn't give me sound in the back speakers, the audigy 2 doesn't do encoding to dolby digital so its just sending stereo to the reciver on the z-5500. But the intergrated nForce2 does decode to DD 5.1 Live. So I trust this would work... But I found a much easier solution to my problem.

Im using Digital Coax for movies etc, then I just switch to my 6-Chan Direct for games etc :). There both plugged in at once, (multiple connections, optical, 6chan direct, coax) Just hit input and it works fine. From what I can read half life 2 doesn't have digital sound output cababilities.. :o

Audigy 2 zs does have DD support, because i use a home theatre and it registers DD when i have it going through my audigy. But yeah just use analog seperate cables. And i don't think i've ever seen a game with digital 5.1 Dolbly Digital or DTS. All games are analog.
