Recently, I picked up Silent Hill: Origins.
I never really played any horror games, but I decided to pick it up anyways.
Although it's a good game, it was kind of lacking in the horror section.
Plus it was too short.

So I'm just wondering if anyone would have any recommendations on good horror games? (Apologies if a thread like this has been made, if so, could you kindly provide me a link?)

Something like Silent Hill (sadly, I can't seem to get my hands on the other ones but I'm working on it)

Thank you for the feedback.

Condemned was pretty creepy. Check it out. You'd probably like it.

I know you said you are working on it but if you can definately try and play the console Silent Hill games.

The Suffering. Holy mother of **** that game was creepy.

Oh, forgot to say this:

I have a PC, PS2, Gamecube, PSP and a DS.

Unfortunely, I don't have any of the next-gen consoles yet (the money is going towards university :( )

Condemned: Criminal Origins

if you dont buy it you will regret it

What do you consider as horror?

Each persons taste in what they find to be scary will differ greatly than that of the next person. Do you want great graphics, but don't care for a story or vice versa? Does there need to be copious amount of blood or a spooky atmosphere?

I would recommend the following:

1) Condemned: Criminal Origins - This game combines a good story with a few twists along with excellent audio & graphical elements, all tied in to an at times exceedingly psychological game play ambiance. In Condemned: Criminal Origins, players take the role of Ethan Thomas, an FBI forensic investigator who becomes trapped in the condemned sections of a fictional American city named "Metro City", while hunting a serial killer. Thomas' investigation is further complicated by a mysterious phenomenon that is transforming the transient population of these areas into insane, violent psychotics. As Thomas, the player investigates crime scenes using forensic tools and techniques, while fighting off the constant assaults by "the influenced" in the hopes of catching the serial killer and escaping alive, and also prove that he is innocent to the police.

2) Clive Barker's: Undying - Don't confuse this excellent game with the recent game Clive Barker's: Jerico, for they are worlds apart in terms of quality. Undying follows the adventures of 1920s Irish paranormal adventurer Patrick Galloway as he investigates the mysterious occult happenings at the estate of his friend Jeremiah Covenant. World War I veteran Patrick Galloway receives an urgent letter from his friend Jeremiah Covenant. Covenant, well aware of Galloway's reputation for dealing with occult matters, is in failing health and raves about a curse that has destroyed his entire family. Galloway travels to the Covenant estate on the coast of Ireland to visit his friend, who relates an outlandish tale of supernatural terrors. Keep in mind that the game is a few years old now, so you'll be seeing a game based on DirectX 8 graphical technology.

THIS.

But it HAS too be the original, the second (ties that bind) was kinda dumb.

try the original Resident Evil, back when it was good.
Of course. Still, it was kinda fun running around the streets of Baltimore blasting monsters instead of the cramped prison blocks of Abbott Penetentary. But wait they threw us into another prison on Ties That Bind didn't they?

THIS

I forgot about this game. D:

No Tollbooth,
The military takes you too a warehouse/laboratory/holding facility, which you later return too, except you go to the gov't holding area, if you consider that a jail, then yes. The high point was using the M60 on that truck.
The original was more mentally horrifing too
killing a clone of yourself/your inner monster/ I can't make this make sense

Condemned was the second game I ever bought on my 360, play it at night with the lights off and a shut door. They wont stay off or shut for long. I kid you not, that game gave me a nightmare or 2 afterward.

Or just play the Catacombs level of Thief 2 was it?...ill be caught dead before replaying that level.

Ah yeah. And

realizing that the ability to turn into a demon was all inside of Torque's head and it was simply unrelenting rage.

All in favor of Dr. Killjoy being the creepiest but at the same time devilishly awesome character ever say "Aye".

Nay

Gman
then Killjoy

I still flip out when a light flickers in that game, and the graveyard was the worst, I almost didn't finish when I hit that part.

Eternal Darkness ffs!

Fatal Frame 1 and 2 were both excellent entries to the horror genre.

*lights flicker*

"The warden sure let this place go. Maybe there's a sw-*click click click click*

"Wtf"

*RARASTRGBJGFDH* OH LOL IT'S A SLAYER.

The Gonzo Gun (chicken that shoots insta kill eggs) is the best weapon ever.

how'd you get it?

I tried codes, and walkthroughs, with no luck...D':
also, I lol'd at *RARASTRGBJGFDH* OH LOL IT'S A SLAYER.

How bout them flaming girlies?

The weapons/ammo cheat unlocks it. The fps camera view was pretty god-awful, just thrwoing this out there.

If you want a decent horror 3rd person shooter OP, try Cold Fear. It's nasty.

YOU SPEAK TRUTH

I hate 3rd person games normally, this and Socom are the ONLY exception.

How bout them diggers?
Those Diggers were nasty ****ers. The Mainliners were absolutely annoying though. I took me forever to solve a puzzle involving the bastards in a break/shower room where you had to cover something with a vending machine to stop the water so they wouldn't spawn.

OHMYGOD

Why do I love all the games you like?

we have sooo much in common.

Well, I like horror like sort of Silent Hill horror, psychological horror.
Not like "omg, it's a hideous monster shambling slowly towards me" horror.
Although, sometimes that's a bit creepy.

Then you'd love The suffering, but only the original, its a mixture of both.

Cold Fear had a major plot too, but it was more "MONSTERSSSSSS!!!!! SHOOT THEM WITH YOUR AK-47 AND MP5!!!

ZOMBIES!!!!! QUICK, GRAB THE SHOTGUN!!!!"

although Zombie Panic! Source is fun :D

Ah, I see. Someone has already reccomended Fatal Frame and Undying, but my reccomendation for The Suffering still stands as it is a good mixture of both flavors of horror. It mixes in survival and 3rd person gunplay with freakish things such as the monsters being the incarnations of the various forms of prison execution and the island's history (Slayers = beheading, Mainliners are lethal injections, Festers are a slavemaster or something etc.), as well as visions and voices in your head of your inner demon and your dead wife telling you what choices to make. Moral choices also have an impact on the ending, three in total (Good, Neutral, Evil).

Let's have babies together.

I'm not ready, can we discuss our similarities over dinner though?

Can I be invited to the wedding? Please? I'll do dishes if I can come.

I've heard good things about Penumbra.

I heard a lot about that game a year or so ago, but when I played it, I was left wondering when it was going to get scary.

Another great game is the original AVP.

Penumbra. has made some major changes and is looking much more intense.

Try Darkwatch for a FPS horror game.

another thing I like are puzzles (but like freaky puzzles, Silent Hill: Origins had a good one where *spoliers* you had to give pills to dolls based on patients at the hospital)

System Shock can be considered Horror if you think Event Horizon is part of the genre in films.
It's also a bloody awesome game, as is the sequel.

Aye, Condemned is possibly my personal favourite in terms of creepiness and the odd jump here and there.

Perhaps try a marine campaign on AvP2 as well.

I am still stuck at the point where the cop shoots you and you fall in the river, I don't know what to do, but enjoy beating the townspeople that kill me every time :/

Well, no luck on the silent hill games yet (for some reason, they are hard to find here).
