And I hope you can help me and the thousands of other people here

I'm looking for something that:

1, is a good school
2, is far from NM
3, has plenty of water and green (I'm really tired of the brown here)
4, isn't ludicrously expensive (I can live with expensive, just not outragous)
5, is a good sized town (100,000 - 200,000 sounds about right)

of course, I can be flexible with some of them

Hmm....let me think...I don't live in america and know very little about locations of cities and towns in the states so I'm going to recommend Harvard. There, your choice has been made, your life is complete. Congratulations.

much too expensive and prestegious

btw, I'm thinking a bit about Stevens Tech in Hoboken, NJ if any of you have heard of it.

too close to the bog of LA where I got sick from just breathing the air for a week.

I'm thinking more along the lines of somewhere east.

I used to work in Hoboken, NJ and would hang out there all the time on weekends too. Stevens is a great school for technical pursuits and is far enough away from the main street(Washington Street) in Hoboken so as not to be too annoying, but is also right on the Hudson River, so you have plenty of peace but also plenty of distractions if you so desire(not to mention NYC one short PATH ride away). Plus the student housing looks kick-ass--we just walked by it this past weekend and marvelled.

Its very green out here right now and Frank Sinatra park right on the river is full of sunbathing twentysomethings. The breeze off the river is remarkably fresh and not bad smelling like some people would think. And there's a bitchin new outdoor skatepark right on the river too, if you are into it!

The location is great also because you're only 1.5 hours from Philly too and its a very different feel down there(the whole of Downtown feels like just one of the neighborhoods in New York). And you're only an hour or maybe 90 min.(depending on where you go) from the Jersey Shore which is always awesome in the Summertime.

Anyway, hope this helps and good luck with your decision!

The Ohio State University does a good job of fitting most of your criteria. It's a big school. Rivers and trees on campus and large state parks nearby. Great med school and does a good job with other areas of study. It's definitely far from NM and isn't outrageously expensive. Columbus, OH is exploding with job opprotunities too. There are a few shady parts of town but the campus is very nice.

Northwestern...? Maybe Western Washington University, you could come make out with me.

Thanks for the suggestions guys :), keep 'em coming

Sounds great victimofscience, and out of curiosity, where do you live right now?

gh0st, I've been up there a bit, but it didn't seem right for some reason.

OAR, that's a little farther than I was thinking, I'll keep it in mind though ;)

Joule, is that where you're going? And have you been there?

LSU, buddy! Although, BR is 400,000 people...but whatever.

Isn't it a little late to be deciding? The deadlines were all May 1st, I thought...

Then it should be too early for him to care. I'm very confused.
It's never too early to think about college and narrowing down your choices on which to attend. It's a big part of your life. What's the harm in planning early?

Yeah, I'll be a senior next year.

btw steve, definetly not LSU, too hot and humid there :E

Im at UBC in Canada. Guy down the hall from me was from New Mexico, it was funny that the sports bar on campus didn't accept his ID because they didn't recognize it. Anyways, it's a nice place. You've got best skiing in North America a few hours away, there's a beach (nude) right on the edge of campus, bonfires and drinking at the beach is a lot of fun, but the cops don't like it, lots of green, rains a lot in the winter. The campus is big, I think there's 40000 students, and Vancouver is a really nice city, good thai food downtown.

UT Austin. Be a longhorn. Yay, cheer. Cows!!! Burnt orange! ... and cows!! :P
But anyways...

1, is a good school
yeah, it's good, for a public school

2, is far from NM
one state over! (It's a big state though...)

3, has plenty of water and green (I'm really tired of the brown here)
green, yeah. water? Well, I hear there's a lake with swans and stuff.

4, isn't ludicrously expensive (I can live with expensive, just not outragous)
It's a public school. There's some that are cheaper, but you can apply for some scholarships.

5, is a good sized town (100,000 - 200,000 sounds about right)
population of Austin: 656,562. population of UT: 50,000... hmmm....

I really don't plan to move to canada or any other country at the moment, but thanks for the suggestion anyways.

I kinda don't want to move to texas at all mostly because of the crazy accents and general aura of the place (to generalize quite a lot).

Thanks for more suggestions, keep 'em comin' :D

And we've got the hottest ladies around. Next to UT, that is. Cancels out, if you ask me.

I've seen your kind of hot steve....

maybe that's why I don't want to go there :E

and about ohio... meh... don't know what to say

Hey, that was an isolated incident. It was late and I was really freakin' drunk, dude. You can't count that. Or her. Or whatever you'd call that...thing.

Hazar--I live in Pennsylvania, just across the NJ border. I came out here due to a switch in careers, but the country life is very relaxed and such a treat after four years in the NYC metro area(awesome fun, but hectic too). Anyway, good luck and feel free to ask me questions about the area, etc if you like--enjoy Senior year!

ah, but see, after 14 years in the country, you'll want to go back to the city :)

It didn't seem right because WWU is in Bellingham! Great if you want to get to Vancouver in a hurry... Seattle's a great city though...and there's that one university there...what was it again?

Oh yeah.. UW.. :p A Washington state public school like WWU, only more in Seattle, less in Bellingham, and bigger, better, stronger, faster, and more research-y...

Cheers gh0st!
