how abt 'Fruity Loops Studio' ?? its easy to use, though it cant be categorized as a professional tool.u can create music from scratch or add effects to existing songs. if u r looking for professional stuff 'ACID Pro' and 'Sound Forge' r worthy mention.

Fruity Loops isn't exactly a great program for post-processing.

a vst host and the waves bundle.. not cheap but works great

Thanks for the replies, Adobe Audition is just what i was looking for.

go me.
be sure to share some of your material with us/me

you could have just downloaded a free wave editor like audacity which would probably do everythig you need..
obviously this post is only relevant if you actually bought audition.

But see the thing is, free software, for instance Goldwave, does not accomplish the sort of editing i'm trying to accomplish.

Audacity is better than goldwave. Its interface isnt as slick as the commercial apps but it has most of the features, including supporting vsts and other types of plugins so i doubt it wouldnt do the job for you. There is a lot of free audio software that is just as good as the 'pro' stuff.
What is it you need to do?
