Hello ladies and gents.

I was hoping for some input regarding a matter I am seriously contemplating for my computer.
I am considering an upgrade of my processor, motherboard and ram.

Although as tech myself I have compiled my own package for what I would buy for this upgrade I would like to get as much input on the matter of other possibility's and draw on other people's experiences.

So I was hoping for if people would provide suggestions of their own which is why I will avoid mention of the ones I am considering as not to influence.

the factor needed to be considered though is that due to my graphic card being AGP I need to choice a AGP motherboard or one of the motherboards that does PCI express as well as AGP which I have seen a few examples of myself.

Also of course I have no desire to buy a whole new PC nor upgrade my other components as they are in no need of. It’s purely motherboard, processor and ram that I wish to upgrade.

Below are my current specifications

OS: Windows XP professional
Motherboard: Intel p4 titan 667
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.53GHz
Memory: 1536MB RAM
Graphic card: RADEON X850 Series AGP 8x (running at 4x) 256 ram
Soundcard: SB Audigy 2 platinum ex
Network: Gigabit Ethernet (PCI Card)
Hard drives: 4 IDE hard drives.

Although I believe I have covered all items of import ants if you have any other information required please ask.

I live in England and tend to use dabs or ebuyer however other sources mentioned is fine :)

I do hope this does not impose on anyone and will wait with interest for other suggestions and the pro's and cons so on.

Anyway thank you for your time and I hope I have managed to convey what I mean diplomatically and elegantly

Carl

You want a ****ing upgrade? :O
Well, you might consider upgrading your CPU to 3,06 Ghz or higher as your motherboard will support that. Maybe a HyperThreading one.
More RAM... 2 or 4 GB, if you're going for a HyperThreading CPU (Will double your FSB speed). And I dunno about a motherboard.

lol i wouldnt recommend that much ram and where did hear it raises fsb speeds but yes go for the 3ghz cpu and oc it if u can

mem not matter

memory doesn't matter, according to manual 2gb's is limit anyhow for current motherboard.

would knowing the chipset help?
if so its intel 845pe chipset.

?

well the motherboard manual (from where i drew my previos statement regarding), of which i have on my lap at this moment states on a particular line...

"supports up to 2gb Dram (max)".

However after reflection it occours the intended meaning of the manual is possibly being very specific about the ram type and is simply stating it can only support 2gb "Dram" but more of other kinds which is what you are maybe trying to say.
basically i may have interpreted it too generally without thinking on the details properly (was busy at time of posting :D lol )

however i have not had any interest in upping the ram during the use of my current motherboard so i would not have researched the information you are refering to.
The ram i currently use was orignally chosen and installed by my father years ago (during my youth) so was something i have had little need to give any thought to till now.

however all of this is unimportant as the motherboard is one of the items i wish to upgrade so ram for my next motherboard would be what interests me.

do hope you know am not argueing with you, just thinking out loud. your input is appreciated and please feel free to provide a suggested setup to my orignal inquiry.

thanks
