Hey all. I've been looking for quite a while now (well, waiting mainly), but it's been nearly impossible to find programmers for my modification. We finally got one, but we need at least 2 more. Our one coder has decided to tackle the different game modes we are planning for the modification, but we still need at least one more programmer for the weapons and one more for the special abilities.

What is our mod, you may ask? It's been on the news on http://moddb.com/ a few times, its name is Evolution, and it is obviously a mod for Half Life 2. (otherwise I wouldn't be posting here. Heh.)

Here's a basic rundown of our concept: A multiplayer post-apocalyptic game that takes place in the 2300's after a series of events that lead to the developement of extraordinary abilities by various individuals. These abilities are able to be morphed (evolved) throughout the matches to cater to the player's style of play. There will be 5 ability sets, each with different levels of strength, where the higher one is skilled in a certain ability, the more powers and techniques become available. The mod will also feature different game modes to reflect this style of play, as well as incorporating this gameplay into regular games, such as CTF, DM, and Team DM. We also intend to include customized weapons just to add to the realism of the game world.

Once we get those 2 or more programmers, then the real work can begin, and this mod will come closer to completion. At the very least, everyone let me know what you think. :)

If your one coder is only coding different win conditions/ways of spawning, he's not doing nearly enough. You don't need three coders. You need to prioritise what parts need doing first (basic controls, and the ability to 'morph', even though the different levels don't have the abilities coded to them), and use your existing coder to his full potential.

Trust me, unattached coders are as scarce as hens' teeth. If your current coder isn't sufficient, consider learning a little C++ yourself, too.

Every mod has this problem, unless they pay, which you shouldn't do, as most mods are non-profit. You just need to look on every forum, and as soon as you find a coder going spare, grab him by the teeth and don't let him go. Make it sound like your mod is one of the most promising (it is, so don't think that is the problem) and you should get him.

And like Angry Lawyer said, I'm not sure whether this coder can do a lot, but if he can't, it is a big mistake to have 3 in-experienced coders. You need two "pro"grammers at the most.

Or be a one man mod team, like me. Then you don't have to worry about other people not doing their work, and the mod gets finished as quickly as you're able to work.

Yeah, looks like I'll just have to keep my eye out and hope for the best. Maybe if I can actually find time between homework and real work I can poke around the SDK and learn it quick enough to make a difference. :) It'll definitely take a while to get this whole project done, but I can definitely say it will be worth it in the longrun.
