i'm surprised. originally today was going to be 70% no-go for launch, but now the skies are getting clearer and..

Yes! Confirmed. launch and weather are both go, cross fingers for the next 9 minutes.

watch now: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/

That was freaking sweet!

I was watching the count down and then ran outside to watch it. It was like a huge fireball on the horizon and everything over the tree line was orange. Then you see a big streak of fire come out of it and its the shuttle haulin ass. Damn that was awesome.

And it really does haul ass. It was almost completely out of view in a minute and a half.

Oh and some dumbass thought a comet had hit earth and that we were all dead. He was annoying, it took him awhile before it finally got through to him that it was a shuttle launch.

ARSE!!! I just caught it as it turned into a dot in the distance. Why do I always miss these things?

LOL at the dumbass

shuttle travels at 17,500 miles per hour.... That's a lot of miles per second.

How close did you have to be to see it? And where was it? I'm too lazy to read whatever is in the link.

It's frickin' freezing here in new york, epecially when I am on an island surrounded by water.
