Looks like World of Warcraft will getting PC Game of the Year instead of HL2

At least that looks to be the case at Gamespot and probably at some other sites as well.

True Half Life 2 is a fun game but it's way too short and too easy. WoW looks to offer way more value and a much much longer play time than HL2. Can't wait to get my hands on it and start playing. Too bad Half Life 2 didn't come with a real multiplayer component. I haven't touched Half Life 2 since I first beat it in like 10 hours. I think Valve made a mistake not to include multiplayer. Oh, well, WoW here I come.

thanks for posting shit spamm threads about shitty games and nice to see that the mod arent count in any review but i understand its too hard to understand that here is a halflife2 forum ( ban )

I dont really care if it gets Game of the Year title or not. And well, of course WoW offers more gameplay time than HL2, its a online rpg...
I myself have been playing HL2 again and again for 2 weeks now. Finished it twice and played the best part again like four of six times.

WoW is in no way a shitty game. He also has a valid point about not including mutliplayer. So what if mods will eventually come out, what about now right after we bought the game? CS is completely seperate from HL2 gameplay wise.

Everquest 2 owns World Of Warcraft.

Bought a kickass account/DVDs of EQ2 for $117.50 on ebay *Grin*

Whoa! You can't like 2 different games.... one or the other buddy..... wait, I play WoW and I love it.

Just because it's not an online rpg doesn't mean it can't offer more gameplay time. e.g. I've been playing UT2K4 since I first bought it the day it was released, and I still ocassionally play Battlefield 1942 after almost 2 years now. As for HL2 mod support - people said that about Doom 3 after we all found out how disappointing Doom 3 multiplayer would be. Look how that turned out. We still have no idea how the mod support for HL2 will turn out. It's not everyday we get something like CS.

world of war craft is to diablo2 as hl2 is to hl1.

world of war craft will get boring, and the mod community will come out with many mods that will pwn wow.

MMORPG = ghey

sorry, you have to be a complete loser to play those games.

just my opinion.

Wow's great fun but it's soo genre-specific to win something like game of the year.

Now, if there was no subscription fee, then Half Life 2 might be in trouble... ;)

And House, if you enjoy real life then surely it makes sense that you would enjoy a MMORPG - they're based around similar kinds of system. I played the open beta for WOW and it was just really satisfying fun.
It's the people who play is an completely roleplay every aspect that are the scary ones... 8o|

Thats fine. Its not like a gaming website naming WoW as GOTY is going to hurt my appreciation for HL2. HL2 gets my GOTY. How 'bout that?!

at best, a reviewer could count the flexibility of an engine for modding, not mods that are a) not even out yet b) not created by the developer

BTW, I really wanted to like HL2, I really did, but the game was just way too short. I felt ripped off in the end in having paid $55 for only 10 hours of game time.

I guess that's why I don't purchase too many single player only games these days. I thought HL2 would be different, but it wasn't. Oh, well - lesson learned.

Eh?

They are two different genres.

I hope Valve makes HL3 35+ hours and then people can complain about how long and repetetive it is.

Every shooter today averages 10-20 hours of gameplay. Sure, it would have been better to play longer, but HL2 wasn't shorter than any other FPS game.

WoW is a mmporg, even the crappiest mmporg would be longer than HL2. It's totally riddiculous to compare a FPS with a mmporg!

Anyway, I don't want either game to win Best PC GOTY. The only deservant IMO is Sid Mier's Pirates! - brilliant game (better than both of these).

I would EXPECT more content in WoW if I was paying a monthly subscription.

MMORPG's hardly ever win GOTY anyway (has one ever one a GOTY?) since they're more of a long term investment and reviewers usually don't have the patience or the time to sit down with a game over a few months. For example it's not a very good MMORPG if it gets boring after the first month, and reviewers know this.

I'll say HL2 deserves to win best FPS of the year pretty easily, whether it deserves best single player game on the pc is all down to personal preference and which genre's you prefer.

Yes, but some of those games have a fun multiplayer component that lets you squeeze much more play time out of the game once you beat the single player portion. Which is why I lament HL2 not having a multiplayer component. The game would have ended up so much better (and better value for my money) in the long run if it had it's own multiplayer (and not just a CS rehash, which I stopped playing after version 1.0).

CS:S is multiplayer though. The entire point of including it is to give that replay value.
No, it's not HLDM. It's something that is generally considered much better (not by me, but just look at the amount of people who play CS.)

You might not like the multiplayer, but you can't say they didn't have one.

I don't think it's so ridiculous. Like I said, I still play UT2K4 and Battlefield 1942 to this day.

As for Pirates, would definitely like to give that game a try, but I fear, once I start playing WoW, it'll be consuming all of my free time, so I won't have time to play Pirates or any other game for matter. Heh (I got pretty addicted to Everquest back in the day).

The community has it's right to an opinion. As I do for my own opinion, and Half-Life 2 is the best game I've ever played. So...

Even if I did enjoy playing CS:S (which I don't, far from it), if you've played Counter-Strike on the first Half Life you've already played CS:S. CS:S is basically just an incomplete version of Counter-Strike with prettier graphics and ragdoll physics thrown in. I don't see how that's giving me value for my money. To me, tacking on CS:S seems more like an afterthought (lazy developers perhaps?), than anything else. It gives you the illusion that HL2 has a multiplayer component and that you're getting value for your money when you really aren't.
