End of Third Age

Third Age is a fictional time period from John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's universe of Middle-earth, based on his novel series Lord of The Rings. The Third Age began after the first downfall of Sauron, when he was defeated by the Last Alliance of Elves and Men and lasted for 3021 years, until Sauron was again defeated, this time finally, when his Ruling Ring was destroyed.

Nope. That mod would get shot down faster than a mod based on an IP owned by FOX.

But if you change the names of the classes, and maybe change the setting a bit to make it similar but not identical to Middle Earth, then you might have a chance of keeping it afloat. Otherwise it's copyright infringement.
 
guys what are you talking about it's a mod...i am not making any profit out of it....plus the name is original untis are original battles are based from the book....

doesn't matter if its a mod or not, you don't have permission, you don't own rights to anything related to LotR's. Get permission, then you'll be able to make it. Otherwise you'll be shut down, just like the others.
 
Try and see it from a company's perspective.

This little modification for a computer game comes out, based entirely on Lord Of The Rings. This mod isn't making any money, but people interested in LoTR computer games might say "Hey, look at this LoTR game. It looks cool, it's fun to play, and it's free! Now I don't have to go out and buy the official LoTR game."

Basically, you'd be cutting into potential LoTR game-based profits. And whoever owns the copyright to LoTR can stop any unsolicited production based on the IP.

But, if you make it similar to the book, you can't get sued or anything. Just make sure you never, EVER make specific reference to the original LoTR works. You can name your warriors "Orok-Wi" and make the wizard "Randolph" and call the world "Lower Earth", and I don't think they could do anything about it.
 
you're making me laugh...so you saying all the band of brothers mods or saving private ryan mods have some sort of an agreement with the production that yes they can make a *free* mod for free based on on someone else's idea...oh and by the way
author of lord of the rigns is dead....and i am basing my mod on his books not on the movie which EA has a license for. There i'll remove the lord of the rings out leave end of third age oh boy i am causing EA to lose money :laugh:

oh come along now, stop being naive, you don't honestly think your gonna get through the net when others haven't do you?

Please read and re-read what your being told. YOU do not own the rights to ANYTHING related to Lord of the Rings, doesn't matter if Tolkien is dead, the Tokien estate own the rights now (you say you've based it on the book not the films, well its them you want to talk to to get permission) Don't for a second assume just cause its a little mod that you've got the god given right to do it, cause you haven't.

Make a mod that isn't someone elses IP, or your just gonna waste your time and be shut down, just like the morrowind middle earth mod was (whatever they might tell people, it was shut down).

Think about it for a second, if your allowed to make it, then that means anyone can, so then you've got 40 mods based on LotR's, now if you still think thats harmless then you really shouldn't be making mods.
