According to PCGamer UK, the ETA for Lost Coast is Winter 2005 ;( BTW, the scans are cool, but I don't think you get the true feel for the Lost Coast pics - so go buy your copy when it hits your area!!

Awesome. I may have to go pick this up today! :bounce:

Wtf?!
WINTER?!?!
Jesus christ, I thought Lost Coast was just one small level with fancy HDR?

So its all ready done and their still waiting till winter? =/

That does seem.....a little further away than expected, but perhaps more realistic.

in a months time..? in winter time?.. oh no, not this again.

Maybe they're waiting for all you people to get systems good enough to play it on ;)

That's probably it......damn it wont be coming out till 2010!!!!! Sorry everyone.

I'm willing to bet PC Gamer just got mixed up on the dates for Aftermath and Lost Coast, considering Valve specificly said Lost Coast would come out in 4-8 weeks. That would be about Summer; meanwhile, it makes more sense if Aftermath comes out in winter rather than Summer

PCG aren't always accurate. I'm not going to get too worried given that Doug went on TV to say a few weeks not long ago.

They wait that enough hardware would support the HDR.

God some people.

Who are you going to believe, PCG or Doug on G4TV?

given doug's PR reputation, PCG of course.. but that's besides the point.. lighting doesnt always strike twice, and they do have the ability to suprise .. e.g HL2 deathmatch

I'd go with Doug on this one, VALVe knows how bad they messed up with all the hl2 release dates, etc. I DOUBT they will pull another one.

What is HDR ans Lost Coast anyway?
HDR is High Dynamic Range Lighting and will be implemented and showcased in the upcoming short level, 'The Lost Coast'. It's a part of the Highway 17 chapter of Half-Life 2 and will be made available free of charge to Half-Life 2 customers that meet a specific set of high end hardware requirements.
The release date and requirements are still undetermined at this time.

Will the Lost Coast only come with HDR or can I get it on my mid-range PC?

The Lost Coast isn't just HDR, it's also high-res textures and such. It won't play well on anything but the high-end.

How did you get the new PCGAMER UK if it doesn't come out till the 14th

Assuming your talking about the newest issue that features Aftermath

LOL sorry but a mid-range won't handle it unfortunately. Here are the min specs that have been reported in PCG UK

3.2 GHZ P4 or AMD equivalent
1 gig RAM
top of the line graphics card (so an ATI x800 or a Geforce 6800)

You might be able to play it, but with 2 FPS :naughty:

I saw scans at another HL2 site. I guess some of the subscribers have it already.

ohh me wants t0 se3 d4t !

I wonder why winter ?
even Aftermath will be released this summer

I think they just got confuzzled. Why would a short level integrating HDR come out after the full expansion pack?

Particularly when you'd probably think that the expansion might have some relevance to the Lost Coast level, as well?

yeah, I just read the article in PCGamer, it talks about HL2:AM, The Lost Coast and DoD.
There's really no spoilers, it's mostly saying that you get to descend the citadel as it's blowing up, and that you "might" fight stalkers, assuming that they are hostile, and then that City 17 will be in chaos since the combine energy fields are failing and all the antlions and xenofauna are pouring into the city, even the combine are running for their lives

^^^ Just in case ;)

it doesnt say anything about winter. the closest it comes to saying a date is "it's coming soon".

Sounds like the start of Half Life. Everythin' going mad n' all.

If you look at the top of the page, where they start talking about Lost Coast, right uner the title it says ETA: Winter 2005.

Back to basics :farmer:
well, like they were saying in the article, they found a formula that works, so they're sticking to it :afro:

be glad that Valve are actually updating their engine

It may not look as good as Unreal 3, but its got the advantage that new features can be easily added, to it, as opposed to waiting for 3 years to get the new engine

Maybe it's taking so long coz they're converting the whole game to HDR?

I just don't see why they cant release Lost Coast as a preview, then release the whole game when they've done that.

HDR isn't something they have to add to every map, it's something that'll be activated inside the engine
