Hello there,
I finished the Lost Coast but I am not sure I understand something. The graphics looked very much like the half life 2 graphics. Does it look much better with a top of the line video card, or is it just more polygons and frames?

Lost Coast was meant (I beleive) to demonstrate HDR lighting.

Which If I remember rightly, is high-dynamic-range.

Not all video cards support it, so it may be that you don't have the correct card.

Personally i didnt think the graphics were as good as i'd expected either. Yes it was better and hdr was nice, but i dunno i wanted more.
And it depends on what your current graphics card is, as to wether a better one will make any difference to what you see

enable full HDR and it's much nicer than without, but unless you have an uber-card it'll run pretty slow, my x850XT-PE clocked x800gto2 only averages ~40FPS on the start of the level:eek:

I have full hdr enabled, and it runs really quickly. I dont think my pc specs are why it dosent looks as good as i hoped, I always have my expectations far 2 high for my own good.

You can see a diff between hl2's graphics n lost costs, but there not as massive as they made it sound it would be

:O

it didnt really improve the graphics - it increases the depth and detail of the textures
the visual style of the source engine is in itself very difficult to alter

if there was a green with envy smiley i'd use it

i remember when you first came here with your system specs - i was :O then and i'm still :O now!
any good games on it since then?
like bf2? :E

naah, dont have the time to play games much these days, bitta counterstrike source and sims2 when i get a few mo free... i wanna upgrade to 2 gig of ram but i cant justify the expence so i put the money towards my new car instead!

the next game ill be getting is tombraider legend ( or aftermath if it comes out first) there both continually being pushed back. im at uni at the mo, somy degree has to come first unfortunatly.

My latest pc chalenge has been wirlessly networking my house. which has been interesting ( its split over 3 floors, so there receptions been the biggest problem)

router mirrors are your friend
you can get a router with like 5 'mirrors' that you place strategically around the house bouncing the signal everywhere - works great without having to buy 3 routers for 3 levels

OOOO i didnt know that!

ive currently got a netgear 54mps router on the ground floor, connected to my main pc. a laptop with wirless centrino where eva it happens to be currently resedenting( ususaly middle floor). and a rather old pc, on the top floor ( used to be mine, gave it to my mum) with a usb2 wirless doo dar.
my dads looking at adding his laptop to the network, and buying himself a pc to add 2.

The signals brilliant downstairs, and even works at the end the garden, but its a little temprimental trying to access the net on the top floor. sometimes signals strong, sometimes non existant.

that's a whole lotta radiation :P do the neighbours know?!?!? :E
i'd wireless my house but it'd come out of my pocket - damn student poverty :(
:)

oh ur a student too.. sux dont it...What you studying?

It only cost me £50 for the router and the adaptor for the upstairs pc( special offer on amazon), and dad bought me it as an early xmas prezzie.
lol@ radiation. luckily we dont have ne neibours...well we do but there quite a way away, far to far for us to nuke them.

i'm in uni in dublin's finest bombshelter - UCD - doing economics and finance:x
oh well decent job FTW!

Ah, that explains why I did not see any improvement over HL2. Time to grab a new video card I guess =)
