So everyone is talking and excited about the lost coast level right, myself included. but i have a question. how is it any different from the R8-HDRBLOOM mod that was released several months ago. I am not trying to stir up $hit. I am really just wondering.

...and R8 doesn't really look very good. HDR makes my balls ache it's that good.

how is it good that your balls ache??

wait! don't answer that :borg:

So whats the amazing thing whit this video,i have dl it and checked it out and it dosent get me excited.
If its just about the eye candy it dosent work for me,cuz if this is implemented in a good game i dont have time to see it while playing.
I think Valve should try to lower the system specs for the next game to be released.
Even if the candy is great and good looking not every have a super pc to play it on...

Then people should have 3 options before starting the game.
Play optimized version (for slower machines)
Play regular version (for pretty good setups)
Play ultra-quality version (for those that sold a kidney to upgrade their PC) :E

That's so that they can make a version with few limitation to really hsoiwcase the engine capabilities.

The difference is... HDR in Lost Coast should look better. Lost Coast will have a lot of eye candy and huge high-res textures. Basically, it won't have any parts of it simplified/reduced in quality to get better performance, as it's obviously done in HL2 and every other game.

Let me ask you this. If you were doing a Massive Tech demo for your engine to show off all its capabilites, why the hell would you do your idea!

They want to show off all of sources features. They have already showed off it's scalability. Now they want to show everyone the limits.

And the limits can very easy become the new recuired specs for the new games right???

New games as in new new games? Probably not. Think about it like this, you have this amazing engine and you want to prove that it is worthy, possibly get more mod teams to check your game out, and possibly more licenses...why not go about to show it off and all its beauty aswell as reward those who have amazing systems that can run any game. They spent the money for those systems..they should get somtin.

Games probably near the end of the year that will probably become required specs though.

Thats what Valve said about Steam when it came out,it should be for 56k users.
But what normal 56k user whould use steam to download HL2 or the upcoming mods and the updates that comes along whit it.....

After looking at that video there is no question that HL2 wont be on top in graphics. Textures, Smoothness of the models, and now lighting. HL2 will be looking pretty slick for a year or two if they keep up with the upgrades.

tru tru

Much as I love Source, I still think it's a long way behind the Unreal 3 engine.

True true. They need to unlock the parallax mapping in Source and add Dynamic lighting if they want to compete with UE3

I AM A 56ker.
56kers don't have to download steam.
Downloading a 300meg file has actually become quite a breeze for me as a 56ker. I mean hell I dled a 600meg Desert Combat for BF1942, didn't really suit me n it was deleted the next day.

Thats what Valve said about Steam when it came out,it should be for 56k users.
If my memory serves correctly it was to be
"Optimized for broadband".
This means that it will take alot more features that broadband can give. Such as downloading the game.
They wont take out that feature just because 56kers can't do it. Oh wait THEY CAN. 56kers CAN DOWNLOAD big files. Not as fast, but they can.

Also you may have missed the little thing about disabling updates. I mean hell I have plan of attack, I have Natural Selection, I have Garrys Mod, I dled DoD, I got The Hidden: Source, Strider Mod, Digital Paintball, Hostile Intent, They Hunger, The Specalists, TFC.

Are you even a 56ker? Did you ever have a 56k and if you did you prob got crap 56k conenctions. I am a 56ker who gets 56k connections. When you start complaining for us, no thats just wrong when we are not complaining at all.

Yeah i have been on the modem ride since 9600 bps-V.90 56 kbps and now i have broadband.
But i wasent complaining, all i said was that the todays show off from gaming company can very easy become tomorrows standard...
And it has become very expensive to keep up with the newest games when the system specs rocket jumps

According to microsoft statistics are showing that annualy computers have been falling 8 - 9% in price, so why did they even share to give this info? If they can get consumers to buy computers 1 month earlier they would make an extra 1.2 billion a year.
So Computer Prices = Going Down actually.

But i wasent complaining, all i said was that the todays show off from gaming company can very easy become tomorrows standard...
Very very true. Looks through his PC:G US magazine...

Infact PC:G US has its recommended specs(that it gives for games) around like 3ghz, 1 gig of ram, and a 128meg gfx card.

Looks at GTR: FIA GT Racing
Sees Pc:G's recommended specs
P4 4Ghz, 1gig ram, 256meg 3d card.
Sees gfx
Orgasims.

Not really, why would you say that anyway?
I mean Hl2 could look like all the UE3 engine show off gfx but let me ask you this,
"How many people could run it?".

Just remember EVERYONE. Source was made so it's core components such as the Graphics and Physics engine to be swapped out with next generation technology.

It dosent matter if the prices goes down with 8-9% or 10-15% if you have 3 pc's that needs to be upgraded, its still alot of money and im the one that has to pay for it...

You forget, AOL is not 56k, its more like 22k with some webpage compression technology. :)

Source engine = modular
steam engine = easily modifed
game = elegantly upgradable.
