Lost Planet is a great game that suffers from a few bad design decisions. The graphics are excellent by any standard with only v-synching issues preventing them from looking truly amazing. The enemy design and amount of action they deliver makes for great gameplay that is hampered by control mechanics that get in the way of the experience. Add in a stumbling story and you have a game that doesn't quite reach the levels of some of the more outstanding titles we've seen in recent months. The bottom line, though, is that the game is a lot of fun and that's all that really matters, isn't it?

8.5

I'm buying it :bounce: :bounce:

Well I didn't expect it to get a 10, but I did expect a 6 or a 7 (GUESS I WAS WRONG HUH?) >_> So im buying it too :O.

Played the demo and it seemed like a boring game. Ill check it out a few more times. I just have so much to buy that its no risk time for me.

It certainly seems like it has that wow factor, similar to GoW i guess. GoW, naturally, is better but id still rent this before i buy it. Everyone to their own though i guess.

I'll also try out the demo more before deciding to get it.

User impressions for Lost Planet have been excellent so far and reviews have varied from good to very good. I can't wait to get my grubby hands on this - at the moment Capcom can do no wrong.

Visually (for thoses that care) Lost Planet is meant to be up there with GoW, which means it's stunning to look at. If you liked the demo (which I thought was superb for such an early build) then you know what to expect - run around in the snow and blast some of the biggest bosses in video game history :)

Since the Wii came out there's been nothing worth buying imo, and other than Lost Planet there's nothing worth buying for the coming months either. This is a no brainer if you have a 360.

Yeh - I was expecting a little higher, especially after reading people at ntsc forums raving about it. A few guys who I know like the same games as me absolutely love Lost Planet - that's worth more to me than any review.

Anyhoo, we all know Edge can be moody buggers about any game that doesn't innovate. I love the magasine, but they never rate games on how fun they are. GoW 'only' got 8/10 and it's one of the most awesome games to come out in years :)

Played the demo and I thought it was boring as hell.

Seems a medicore game from the grades it got. It doesn't bode well when IGN reviews include "Another Take" at the last page of the review , that and having the last line "The bottom line, though, is that the game is a lot of fun and that's all that really matters, isn't it?"

All seems to lead to think it's a medicore , fun game. Could be worth it.

Nothing in the comming months? Mass effect :P

Problem I have with Capcom is no vsync causing horrible screen tear on both Dead rising and Lost planets demo, making them awful at high res.

Not sure I'll get this but on the housemates is keen so sounds like he will.

BioWare hasn't put down a solid date for Mass Effect's release though so who knows when that'll come out.

I'm really just waiting for Mass Effect, BioShock, and Alan Wake at the moment.

Settings/screen must affect this. I get zero tearing on Dead Rising or the Lost Planet demo.

If your on a 360, maybe your hardware scaling chip gave out?

Heh, I find it funny that even though you have no real idea what ANA does, you still blame it for the video problems just because we recently found out about it... A scalar chip wouldn't cause screen tearing. I swear, if Microsoft started telling everyone there was a PEBKAC chip in the console, people would start saying that their PEBKAC is broken and call in for support. (Google if you don't know what the acronym PEBKAC means)

Raxxman: What cables are you using and what resolutions does it happen at? It sounds like something with your TV has gone funky... Either that, or it's a game specific issue but I haven't heard of any problems like that.

Going back on topic, I wasn't a real fan of Lost Planet since I never really got the appeal of it... MP was sorta fun yet sometimes the HUD was confusing. I'm not gonna spend my money on this one.

I'm going to rent it but it is borderline 'buy-worthy.'

1. Scale up on the 360 rocks. It's got a better scaler than our dvd player and is our player of choice unless we have region 1 DVD's

2. It's v sync.

It's not something 'funky' that's happening. I have a 1080p Telly running the 360 on scaleup. GoW is amazing, definite improvement over 720p on the telly.

Lack of V Sync hit Saints Row till the update which enabled it, and now it only effects the two capcom games I've played. Just do a search on it. As soon as you hit over 720p on the 360 you get horrible screen tear on both Lost Planet and Dead Rising.

I can play the games but I have to set the xbox to a lower setting which makes visual quality sub par.

Problem is the V Sync lack puts screen tear right in the centre of the view. It really makes the game unplayably distracting. I've actually not played Dead Rising since I've switched to the telly.

Edit: a link with other people complaining about lack of vsync http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=71956

QFT. I didn't get any buzz from it at all.

Oh well, I'll still give it a rental. That was an early build, and if IGN can give it an 8.5 despite bad controls - whereas they gave Red Steel a bloody 6 for practically that alone - it must be worthwhile.

Interesting.

Do you still get tearing when you let your tv do the scaling instead of the 360? Have you tried sending 1080i and letting your tele do the deinterlacing? The only real advantage of setting 1080p in your 360s dash is if it has a better scaler than your tele - games have a native res of 720p and you won't be getting more detail.

I definately noticed tearing with Saint's Row at 1080i, but it only bothered me in cut scenes. During gameplay it was a rare occurence. At 1080i there is none with GoW, Dead Rising, or the Lost Planet Demo on my setup.
