HI!

Well, the first thing to say is sorry. somebody will of coruse complain about this thread since u probably been through all these questions before.

Question 1: Will hl2 have destructible (spelling? word?) doors? if its a locked wooden door, u can shot a well aimed shotgun shot at the doorknob o something like that to open it. is this possible?

Question 2: will a headshot do more damage then a legshot? will the soldiers die with a well placed shot from any weapon?

Question 3: is this computer able to run hl2 without any bigger problems, not at high settings but like medium or something? AMD Atlhon Xp 1800+, 512ddr ram, gforce 4 ti4800se?

Sorry for bad english!

could be, if not, it's not a technical limitation, but... you know

yes

Be ready to be flamed
Anyways
1.Well, materials have their own properties, shoot wood and it breaks like wood, so Id imagine that could work for a wooden door.
2. That would only make sense.
3. Youll be fine

1. It's possible. Whether it's in hte game, no one knows. We do know that gunfire can move objects, however, so why not doors?
2. Already in HL
3. Should be okay for medium to low settings. Certainly no high end graphics features, but all the important stuff should be solid.

cant afford a new vid card. :)

what about the release date? will that be 30 sept for sure?

No one knows for certain regardless what they say, however, the 30th is looking increasingly likely

It would definitely be possible in a mod, it would just be up to the mod author to implement that feature. But..... I doubt HL2 will support this feature in singleplayer.

Question 2: will a headshot do more damage then a legshot? will the soldiers die with a well placed shot from any weapon?

I'm sure a headshot would cause more damage than a legshot. I'm guessing a well placed (very well placed) pistol shot to the head would take an enemy down.

You'll be fine on regular settings, it'll run smoothly.

if I shoot them in a particular area of their brain will they behave differently ???

It's quite possible but the door must have been created to be breakable by the mapper. If you want a door to be locked, letting the player open it by simply shooting it kind of defeats the whole purpose of locking it in the first place (as a mapper). I doubt Valve will make doors openable by shooting them however because you'd need to make ALL wooden doors openable by the same means or the game world would be inconsistent.

The minimum specs for the game have been released and your computer is far above the minimum.

Low? The sneak peak for gamesmags on HL2 like PC Gameplay (magazine for the benelux) ran on a Ti4600 at high (without the special Dx9 features ofcourse) and I quote (loosely translated from dutch to english:

"The demonstration already ran well on a PIV 2GHz with a Geforce 4 card"

(actual quote from the magazine)

And I can assume they used high settings to demonstrate the biggest game in 5 years time. I also assume they mean a Ti4600 but it can be a Ti4200 also, doesn't make that big of a differance.

So his system will do fine, atleast something between med and high.

Even my radeon 9000 pro will be able to run it smoothly at mid to semi-high settings

These cards will not do the high end features, there's just no way around it. They are great cards, but they are not fast enough to push into the high end, and if you want higher resolutions or other standard quality features, you are going to have to cut back on other things as well.

the extra features that dx9 cards will get (in HL2) as opposed to dx8 cards are nothing phenominal. You will get all the main features with a dx8 card. And in terms of speed, dx9 and dx8 are about the same. Basically, with a decent dx8 card, the only thing you will miss out on is some extra features that only dx9 cards can perform (framerate might differ but who would notice the difference between 40fps and 60fps?).

To everyone except the first person who posted answers - why do you feel the need to post answers to the same question over and over again?

You will get about 85% of graphic effects with a DX8 card. In terms of speed, yes a DX9 card can handle dx9 better than a dx8 card, but I think the demonstration on a GF4 proved that it will run at high settings. The full blown dx9 cards like the r350 and r300 will utilize the maximum settings.
