Hello, I'm making this thread regarding problems with low FPS when I play CS: Source (Around 9~12 FPS at all times).

I've updated all of the drivers to the most recent drivers, set all settings to low, 800x600 resolution and it still has low FPS. I'm running on DirectX 9.0 as well. (It still runs with the same FPS with DirectX 7.0 as well)

I've played Counter Strike 1.6 with almost 60-70 FPS , but for some reason when I switched it dropped dramatically when moving to source.

Computer specs are :

Windows XP Professional w/ SP3

Gateway M465 Laptop
Intel(R) CPU
T2300 @ 1.66 GHz
1.66 GHz, 1GB of RAM

And the video card is:
Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family w/ 128 MB

Is there anyone that has any video settings or any other options to do to increase my FPS to at least 30 FPS?

I can provide more information if required.

Any help is appreciated, thank you for your time.

The main reason for the difference between Source and 1.6, I'm sure you'll understand is that CS 1.6 is on the original Half-life engine, and CSS is on the Half-life 2 Source engine. The engine is far more powerful and requires a more powerful machine to run it. Just like any current / new game.

Your laptop from what I can tell is a few years old, and unfortunately isn't kitted out with some of the necessary specifications current games require, such as any Source game. Source as a minimum requirement needs a graphics card, mobile chipsets in laptops aren't much good at all. Other requirements are "1.2 GHz Processor" which you fulfil but you might not be getting that performance from an old laptop. 256MB RAM is the minimum RAM, but you haven't given your RAM quantity correctly, so I can't evaluate that.

But saying that, the fact you have the game running at least allows you to fiddle with somewhat and possibly optimise. I'm not sure how much you'll be able to squeeze out that laptop though. Here is a previous thread with some suggested commands to optimise - http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45812

But this is probably a bit more useful, a whole config which you can create which automatically loads every time you play the game. It should reduce the settings quite a bit, and you might be able to get around the 20/25 mark. To make the config file, just put those commands in a notepad file, and save with the extension .cfg (NOT .txt) and place it in your config folder, it's explained on the link I believe. Let us know if you have any problems creating it.
